After nearly a decade of playing the fan-favorite Damon Salvatore on
The Vampire Diaries, Ian Somerhalder is gearing up for a new kind of challenge this winter where instead of fighting on the side of vampires, he'll be leading a force that's doing battle against them.
In
V Wars, a series based on Jonathan Maberry's best-selling comic of the same name, Somerhalder will be seen playing Dr. Luther Swann, who finds himself caught up in a horrifying new kind of war after a mysterious disease transforms his best friend Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes) into a blood-sucking alpha predator who lives off killing other humans. When society unsurprisingly begins to fall apart due to the viral outbrak, Swann does his best to make sense of what's happened and try to save humanity and his friend, who's ascended to a position of leadership amongst the newborn vampires.
In addition to Somerhalder (
The Vampire Diaries) and Holmes (
Arrow), the main cast will also feature Peter Outerbridge (
The Umbrella Academy), Laura Vandervoort (
Smallville), Kyle Breitkopf (
Wonder), Jacky Lai (
Shadowhunters) and Kimberly-Sue Murray (
Shadowhunters).
The series will start streaming, exclusively on Netflix, on Thursday, December 5.
