AHSOKA: Dave Filoni Says "There's A Story There" When Asked About Baylan Skoll's Return

Will we see morally "gray" former Jedi Baylan Skoll again after the season finale of Ahsoka despite actor Ray Stevenson's passing? Dave Filoni weighs in...

Could we see Baylan Skoll in the galaxy far, far away again despite Ray Stevenson's recent passing?

The season 1 finale of Ahsoka, "The Jedi, The Witch, And The Warlord," unfortunately, served as a farewell to the late actor, but that doesn't mean his character won't return down the line.

The Irish actor, who sadly died back in May just before his 58th birthday, played the villainous(?) former Jedi in the latest live-action Star Wars series, and the finale featured his last ever scene as the character, as we see the powerful Force-wielder standing on the ruins of a mountain-sized sculpture of the Mortis gods.

Skoll didn't have a big part to play in the events of the concluding episode, but Stevenson would undoubtedly have reprised the role at some point. Considering how important his character would appear to be to the ongoing story, there's been a lot of speculation that Baylan might be recast down the line, and Dave Filoni has now strongly implied that, should the show continue, this would be the case.

“Obviously, there's a story there,” he tells Vanity Fair. “We're in a wait and see pattern at this point. But I'm glad the conversation is about Ray and how great he was. I used to have little mini debates with him and say, 'Ray, you're the villain here.' And he'd be like, 'I don't think so.' I was like, 'I know you don't think so, but you are. I love that you're playing it like you're not.' Which is exactly the way Baylan thinks.”

Filoni also commented on Stevenson's character becoming a fan-favorite and how he thinks the late actor would have reacted to the series on the whole.

“I think he would've been over the moon. The big regret here is that he didn't get to experience that. I'm glad he was at Star Wars Celebration with us, that he got to see the trailer and get a taste of that from the fans. And they've been nothing but wonderful about Ray and the character.”

Ahsoka hasn't been officially renewed for a second season, but we'd say it's a pretty safe bet.

Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

The series stars Rosario Dawson in the title role, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, with Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.

Kevin Kiner was announced as the series' composer.

Ahoska is written by executive producer Dave Filoni, alongside executive producers Favreau, Kennedy, Wilson, and Beck. Gilchrist is co-executive producer. The series’ directors include Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel and Rick Famuyiwa.

I really hope they don't back down from this character. He has a lot of story potential going forward and it would be a shame to just drop his arc entirely due to tragedy.

My hope is that they convince HUGH JACKMAN to sign on as a recast Baylan Skoll.

Seems perfect casting and respectful to get another Aussie in the role

They can keep that story going. Just put a wig on Graham McTavish

My bet is on Vincent Regan, first he is a great actor and the resemblance to Ray Stevenson is incredible.

Skoll's story felt complete, but what the source was does warrant some further exploration imo. From that I think we can extrapolate how Skoll's story concluded.

So there is a story there, but one that I can see be told without him. Can't really see anyone fill that role like Ray (although I do like the Liev Schreiber recast).

There is a story there Dave. But Ray Stevenson's is gone. That's it. His story is done.
