AHSOKA: Has Marrok's "Secret Identity" Been Revealed? New Theory May Reveal Who Is Under The Helmet

We're only two episodes into Ahsoka, but the Disney+ series is already generating fan theories, and Marrok is one of the biggest mysteries to us right now. However, this fan theory could reveal all...

Dave Filoni being at the helm of Ahsoka means a deep dive into Star Wars lore was an inevitability. The filmmaker already explored new sides of the Galaxy in Rebels and is now gearing up to take us to whole new Galaxies in this live-action Disney+ follow-up.

One of the Ahsoka's biggest mysteries right now is Marrok's identity. Despite looking eerily similar to a Sith Inquisitor, it feels like there's more to the mysterious villain than meets the eye (the fact his armour is rusted is another intriguing detail we didn't catch prior to Tuesday's premiere).

As we first reported on SFFGazette.com, there's now a chance the mystery has been solved.

In the Reddit post below, it's explained that "Marrok" is a name that derives from the tales of King Arthur, with Marrok a knight who was turned into a werewolf by a witch with ties to Morgan le Fay. Loth-wolves have already proven to be a huge part of Filoni's Star Wars stories, specifically in regard to Ezra Bridger.

The theory goes on to suggest a Jedi (knight) was turned to the Dark Side (a werewolf) by Morgan Elsbeth, one of the Witches of Dathomir, who is in the midst of searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn. In other words, Ezra has become Morgan's slave, likely as a result of her magical abilities.

This suggests Ezra somehow found his way home, only to be taken by Morgan and corrupted...unless he fell to the Dark Side before then. If the theory is correct, it would obviously go a long way in clearing up how it is she's managed to figure out where the Purrgil took Thrawn all those years ago.

We can't discount the possibility of this being a misdirect, of course, but it’s a compelling theory that adds up on a number of levels. After all, if it’s just a random character beneath the helmet - or we never find out who Marrok is - fans are going to be majorly disappointed.

Perhaps Morgan has resurrected someone else? That might explain the decay on his armour, anyway. We'll see what happens, but the third episode of Ahsoka will premiere on Disney+ next Tuesday.

Marrok is...

Smart with the king arthur reference but this was literally my first thought when I saw the character… its so obvious and stupid so I really hope this isnt true.

@ReverseFlasher - Ezra literally got transported to the same place as thrawn, him escaping before him makes no sense. That and why do people act like Star Wars doesn’t always have mindless masked/cool looking guys for the Jedi to beat up. Boba/Maul/phasma

@ReverseFlasher - It very well could be Starkiller...Dave has said if he brought Starkiller to canon it would be as an Inquisitor

@jst5 -

It very well could be Starkiller...Dave has said if he brought Starkiller to canon it would be as an Inquisitor

Unless there's more development beyond just looking cool and occasionally trying to kill Ashoka that would be a serious waste of the character. It'd be "oh, that was guy was supposed to be Starkiller. Huh...okay."

Do we want more for that character or would him just showing up as a throwaway really please fans?

@Humperdink - There is NO WAY he's going to be the over powered character from the game.Making him an Inquisitor to start out is a good way to go ...give him some Nightsister upgrades(they are coming back)at some point....and let's see what type of power can be learned from this new galaxy. He's not going to be some throw away character that you sum up as just an Inquisitor...this story is just starting...we got a long way to go before the movie.

Also this kind of negates all the rumors of “force karate” we’ve been hearing related to ezra.

So, this site isn’t going to mention AT ALL the passing of iconic voice actor Arleen Sorkin??

everyone is posting this theory it's so lazy the obvious choice would be some masked or hooded figure having some greater identity in the universe. Once it's revealed that it's no one just some dude in a helmet all the nerds are gonna be so disappointed that they hyped themselves up having learned nothing from the mephesto days of Wandavision lol

@cham2119 - and they’re going to blame Lucasfilm, even though Lucasfilm hasn’t hinted at or even shown anything that makes Marrok seem even a little bit important. Dudes literally just there so Baylon doesn’t die early

Of course it's Ezra, because it's f*cking obvious.

I think it's possible, but Galen Marek would make more sense (Starkiller from Force Unleashed). A secret apprentice trained by Darth Vader, they'd have to tweak his story a little but it would present an interesting dichotomy to the Ahsoka-Anakin relationship.

It would allow us to introduce someone new yet familiar, and Sam Witwer is no stranger to Star Wars. He's even credited as an additional voice in Ahsoka ep2. We've already seen Ezras struggles with the Dark Side, this would keep the story going while being fresh. We've never had two padawans under the "same" master, unless you count Vader and Luke as Obi Wans padawans.

@MrWhoWeWaitinOn - they've shown ahsoka handle him and a bot simultaneously. I would think Star killer or another apprentice by vader would give ahsoka a real challenge
Taonrey
Taonrey - 8/27/2023, 12:17 PM
@MrWhoWeWaitinOn - Sam is credited in almost all Star Wars products, because he’s a voice actor that works with Lucasfilm a lot. He was also in Rogue one, solo, last Jedi, rise of skywalker, and literally everything Star Wars related in the last 7 years. Dude was ask if he was in Ashoka and didn’t even remember he did voice work for it.

I was hoping it would be Barriss Offee but Marrok doesn't seem to have a very feminine body shape at first glance (though it's hard to be sure with the costume).

That being said, Taskmaster didn't appear very feminine either in Black Widow for the same reasons so it could still be the case.

Ezra and Thrawn went off to the same place. Rather than Elsbeth trying to find Thrawn by tracking down this ancient map, wouldn’t it stand to reason that she could simply just go ask Ezra where Thrawn is, if Ezra is literally standing right next to her that is…

Besides, the Star Wars website specifically says Marrok was “Once an inquisitor hunting Jedi for the Empire”. That’s a pretty telling description that I don’t think they’d use if it is indeed Ezra under the mask.

Never say never with this kind of stuff but I’m leaning No on this being Ezra.
Taonrey
Taonrey - 8/27/2023, 12:19 PM
@vegetaray - don’t use logic, this is Star Wars, it makes way more sense that Morgan brain washed Ezra instead of torturing him for info about thrawn location.
Timerider
Timerider - 8/27/2023, 3:24 PM
@Taonrey - they brainwashed Kanan after saving him and placed him in bacta. He survived, much like Anakin. Ezra will fight his own teacher, only to learn his true identity and with Sabine’s help they bring back Kanan to help with the fight against Thrawn.
Taonrey
Taonrey - 8/27/2023, 7:19 PM
@Timerider - oh god that's even worse, I might prefer the Ezra theory. At least you don't ruin a great character moment with that. Reality is the character probably isn't anyone important l. Wouldn't be the first time a cool looking character didn't amount to much in star wars. Pretty much tradition at this point.

He gave me Rinzler (Tron) vibes from Tron Legacy. So it wouldn't surprise me if it is Ezra under the mask.
Timerider
Timerider - 8/27/2023, 3:14 PM
@SonOfAGif - it’s not Ezra, it’s Kanan, it’s the same idea though. We find out he survived that fuel depot explosion because Thrawn saved him and placed him in a bacta tank to heal from his wounds. Can you imagine Hera and the rest of the crew finding out he’s still alive. His son will get to see his father.
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 8/27/2023, 3:51 PM
@Timerider - Hopefully the cast can deliver that type of emotional on screen. I loved that Rinzler was actually Tron in Tron: Legacy. Kanan would be crazy.

There's already a precedent for masked Inquisitors being "nobody." The Eighth Brother in Rebels wore a similar mask, had little-to-no dialog, and fell to his death without ever being named.

That said . . . yeeeeeeah, probably Ezra.
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 8/28/2023, 2:31 AM
@ClintThaHamster - The Inquisitors are such a cool concept and yet they have been shit in live action. Second Sister was awesome though in Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order. Third Sister was trash in Obi Wan and so was the Grand Inquisitor.
Clintthahamster
Clintthahamster - 8/28/2023, 8:16 AM
@SonOfAGif - I think it just comes down to what they can get away with in animation, vs the cost of doing the same thing in live action. I agree that the handling of the Grand Inquisitor was a disgrace, even taking those limitations into considerations, though I didn't mind Third Sister as much as some folks on this website seemed to.

Well that show was over hyped, not as bad as Kenobi, Book Of Boba Fett or The Mandalorion Season 3.

Gotta love how characters now in Disney Star Wars don't die after being stabbed with a lightsabre.

They can cut through thick metal doors

But Qui Gon Jin.
