As day two of Star Wars Celebration London winds down, by far the biggest announcement was confirmation that Star Wars Rebels actor Lars Mikkelsen will return to play Grand Admiral Thrawn in live-action for the upcoming Ahsoka Disney+ series!

Mikkelsen provided the voice for the lethally calm villain in the third season of the acclaimed animated series, and did such a fantastic job that it was really difficult to picture anyone else taking over as the ruthless Chiss.

When we last saw Thrawn, he was being dragged through hyperspace by the Purrgil along with Ezra Bridger to parts unknown. The character will be integral to Ahsoka, as a large part of the story will focus on the fan-favorite force-wielder attempting to track him down and put an end to him once and for all.

During the panel, we also learned that the directors for the series will be: Dave Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Patel and Rick Famuyiwa

Finally some confirmation. I was beginning to think the rumors were BS and it was gonna be a Hollywood celeb like Kyle Gass or Ed Sheeran...

I kid, I kid.

I feel like he shouldn't be a TV show like villain, but I'll take it.

@Spoken - Who'd you think will be the big bad of Filoni's movie?

@FrankieDedo - What I meant was...I would rather see Thrawn appear first in a movie, rather than a TV show.

@FrankieDedo - See it makes sense to have Thrawne as the big bad in the movie, but Disney is going to have a problem with audience accessibility if the TV shows and movies are crossing over their main plots.

@Spoken - You are correct. He should be the big bad of a new trilogy and that trilogy should be set after Return of the Jedi and eventually be rebranded as episodes 7-9

Outside of Star Wars Rebels I don’t really know much about Grand Admiral Thrawn. I never read those Legends novels he was in.

@tb86 - I highly recommend the Thrawn-trilogy by Timothy Zahn. It will make long for what the sequel movies could've been like.

He did a great job with the animated stuff. There wasn't really any need to recast.

@TheJester187 - Thrawn was always like Batmam, he's the smartest Man in the room and always two steps ahead. Plus both are trained fighters.....huh!

Hugh Jackman would have made a great Thrawn, but Lars is the best.
