Episode 4 of Disney+'s latest live-action Star Wars series, Ahsoka, is set to premiere tomorrow night, but it's next week's fifth instalment that's generating quite a lot of buzz on social media.
Josh from Den of Nerds has sent out a Tweet describing the episode, which will be directed by Dave Filoni, as an "absolute game changer," and If recent rumors are to be believed, this may not be hyperbole.
From what we can gather, episode 5 will feature an appearance from Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), but his scenes will involve more than just a simple flashback to his pre-Darth Vader days.
Apparently, Ahsoka Tano is going to experience some sort of vision of what would have occurred had the events of Revenge of the Sith played out differently, with her former master managing to defeat Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor is not expected to appear, with a dummy used to represent Kenobi's body).
Anakin is then believed to engage in a lightsaber duel with "Snips."
The outcome of their battle is unclear, but there's speculation that this alternate history might somehow inform future events, possibly even resulting in the creation of some kind of Star Wars Multiverse. This may sound a little far-fetched, but the show has already introduced the notion of travelling to "other galaxies" via the mysterious hyper-space ring built by Morgan Elsbeth, so we wouldn't rule it out.
As for this Tuesday's episode, we have heard it may include a flashback to the events of either Star Wars Rebels or The Clone Wars, but nothing has been confirmed.
Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.
The series stars Rosario Dawson in the title role, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, with Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.
Kevin Kiner was announced as the series' composer.
Ahoska is written by executive producer Dave Filoni, alongside executive producers Favreau, Kennedy, Wilson, and Beck. Gilchrist is co-executive producer. The series’ directors include Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel and Rick Famuyiwa.
