STAR WARS: Dave Filoni's "Mando-Verse" Crossover Movie Is Reportedly Titled HEIR TO THE EMPIRE STAR WARS: Dave Filoni's "Mando-Verse" Crossover Movie Is Reportedly Titled HEIR TO THE EMPIRE

If a new rumour is to be believed, Dave Filoni's upcoming Star Wars movie is going to share a name with Timothy Zahn's beloved novel, Heir to the Empire. You can find more details on that after the jump!

The Star Wars sequels remain extremely divisive among fans of the franchise, but the work done by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni on Disney+ has received a far warmer response.

Taking place roughly five years after the events of Return of the JediThe Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett have explored the early days of the New Republic and what became of the Empire after Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader's respective deaths.

When Ahsoka Tano was first introduced in live-action, we learned that she was hunting for Thrawn, the villainous Grand Admiral who vanished at the end of Star Wars Rebels alongside Ezra Bridger. Since then, the former Jedi has landed her own series which will see Lars Mikkelsen reprise the role.

The expectation is that the show will lay the groundwork for Filoni's eventual movie - where Thrawn will be the lead villain - and its title has reportedly been revealed.

According to one trusted insider (via SFFGazette.com), it's going to be called Star Wars: Heir to the Empire, borrowing the name of the Timothy Zahn novel that first introduced the villain. Thrawn was also referred to as "Heir to the Empire" in the Ahsoka trailer, so this isn't exactly a shocker.

While Filoni clearly intends to put his own spin on this story, it's interesting to ponder what he'll borrow from the author's trilogy of books. If Luke Skywalker is part of the movie, then surely the likes of Mara Jade and Joruus C'baoth can't be far behind? Then there are newer characters such as Eli Vanto and Ar'alani!

All signs point to Thrawn making a play to rule the Empire, but how that leads to the rise of the First Order and Supreme Leader Snoke remains to be seen.

Do you think Star Wars: Heir to the Empire is a fitting possible title?

Filoni comes off like a true fan of this universe. Definitely want a SW movie from him.

The first Luke Deepfake wasn't great, but I still liked it ok. The second Luke Deepfake was pretty awesome in some parts. By the time cameras start rolling on this film the tech will be pretty much perfect. The latest Deepfakes are jaw dropping.

I know better than to get my hopes up, but this could be awesome if done right.

Star Wars is dead to me. I have absolutely no interest for this franchise any longer.

Disney has destroyed it.

I just wish the sequels were not already made and so these new shows had a lot more freedom and didn’t have to set up and make sense of the sequel trilogy

@Knightrider - This, so much! I wish they could just go out and rename the sequels as a "what if-triology" and start fresh from what we have now.

As it should. The book trilogy is great, and I hope it draws inspiration from that. Although I do also look forward to Filoni's spin on it.

Wonder if they get Zahn as consultant on it. He wrote a tone of canon and legends Thrawn books, that it feels odd not to include him.

I used to write stuff like Dave too. When in school and I had a paper due I would just take someone else's work from a book and rewrite it in my own words. Dave introduced helicopter lightsabers to canon which is his last original idea. Heir to the Empire but with his Rebel characters and not Luke, Leia and Han, ugh, how freaking creative he is lol

Dark Horse Comics added more good ideas to Star Wars than Marvel Comics and Disney.
