RANGERS OF THE NEW REPUBLIC Rumored To Replace Cara Dune With STAR WARS REBELS' Hera Syndulla

Gina Carano's Cara Dune won't be getting her own series or appear in Rangers of the New Republic, and a new rumour suggests that the character is set to be replaced by Star Wars Rebels' Hera Syndulla.

Before Gina Carano destroyed her Hollywood career, the plan was for her The Mandalorian character, Cara Dune, to appear in both Rangers of the New Republic and her own spinoff series.

That's no longer happening (for obvious reasons), but a new rumour from LRM Online suggests Lucasfilm is planning to replace Dune with Hera Syndulla, a fan-favourite character from Star Wars Rebels

At the end of the Disney XD series, Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren set off to find Ezra Bridger, while Hera continued to serve the Rebellion (alongside her son). The character has since appeared in the Star Wars: Squadrons video game, but Rangers of the New Republic would serve as a nice way of continuing her story while revealing what became of Hera post-Return of the Jedi

It makes perfect sense to pick up with Hera again, and this will likely mean the series ties not only into The Mandalorian, but Ahsoka as well. If her son (Kanan Jarrus is his father) happens to be Force Sensitive, then we could get a whole new wrinkle that sets up stories for years to come.

As for Cara Dune, we don't know how she'll be written out of The Mandalorian, but it wouldn't be that surprising for her to be killed off screen. There will have to be some sort of explanation for her absence, though we shouldn't expect to learn more about that until the show's third season.

How would you feel about Hera making her live-action debut in Rangers of the New Republic?

The truth of the matter is nobody cares that much about Cara Dune for this to be a big deal. She's not Mando, Grogu or any of the characters from the older Star Wars stuff.

The media trying to make Gina Carano's firing and 'cancelling' such a big deal is just distracting white noise. Nobody cared for her character, she said some awful things, she faced the consequences for that, and now she's gone down the ultra-conservative rabbit hole.

Stop feeding the outrage machine and just move on.

Should've gone with Hera from the start. Liked the character way more than Cara anyway. Don't necessarily want to see Jacen though, rather have Carson Teva.

As for Cara Mando finding his people and Cara having New Republic access is probably enough motivation for her to look for her family and thus she can written out of the show.

Or create a new character specifically designed for that particular show. Maybe played by Lucy Lawless and fans will be happy.

Still surprised there's still such a conservative outrage over her firing. The situation is the most Ayn Rand thing to happen, company doesn't like an employee and disposes of them as they're hurting the bottom line. Lived capitalism, any conservative should be welcoming this move lol

@Blergh - If modern American conservatives had to choose between a North Korea-esque command-state run by straight white "Christian" dudes or a totally free market pluralistic democracy that treats all races, religions, and genders as equally valid, the vast majority of them would choose the oppressive totalitarian state in a heartbeat. And increasingly they're not even hiding it anymore.

It was easy to be pro-free market when Ayn Rand was writing because fascistic white dudes (and their children and grandchildren) held a massive amount of wealth owing to the Gilded Age and industrialization where they profited off of the labor of the working poor. But now people get superwealthy by skimming off of middle-class commerce and finding ways to advertising to consumers with a little pocket change. It throws the whole calculus off because the superwealthy have to at least pretend to care about the populace as a whole, hence: vaguely liberal social politics.

The power of public opinion for these companies means that they have to mollify the poors in a way that Henry Ford and the Vanderbilts never had to. In a weird (and depressingly anticlimactic way), the masses have seized power... at least of the major outlets of pop-culture; petrochemical companies and agri-business and such still don't give a shit what people think.

@Spock0Clock -if it was up to modern day conservatives we'd still live in the 60s. White men would be in total power (not that they're not doing so still), women would be as removed from the discourse as far as possible and minorities would be treated like trash.
Any progress we make as a society is opposed by them.

And I genuinely blame media for that, most conservatives that long for this haven't lived it, they just saw it on TV. A utopia for a very specific type of person.

Should of been had Hera. Gina is canceled! All she has time for now is to read the comments. Politics will end up canceling her too

I've also made the suggestion that Hera Syndulla and Chopper might easily replace Cara Dune as the leads (as well as being far more interesting characters) in a previous article so I'm happy if Hera is seriously considered for the lead character (and also, we might finally have an alien main character / protagonist in a Star Wars story who is not named Ahsoka Tano).

Yes please. Cara Dune was a waste of a character anyway tbh

I'm actually down for this. Her firing aside, Cara Dune just wasn't interesting as a character to be able to carry a show on her own. Or atleast Carano isn't charismatic enough to carry it. And while I would like some other kind of character, Hera is a suitable lead. And I think the dynamic of her being a single mother to a force sensitive child could really bring something we haven't seen.

I've got to put a flag down here or else people will just see TheDoctor's (also good) suggestion and leave my fancast in the dust.

Great news! We get to trade in a non-actor/surface only character with a great lead with a rich history and cool connections to lore. Hope they hire a real actress this time, then get her trained up.

@MaddAddaM - You do realise that Gina Carano was acting in other films before The Mandalorian which makes her an actress. Just because you personally don't like Gina Carano doesn't mean that she wasn't an actress.
batman001
batman001 - 3/3/2021, 6:41 AM
@Whaley87 - She's acted in films before she got the role of Cara Dune on The Mandalorian which by default makes her an actress.
MaddAddaM
MaddAddaM - 3/3/2021, 9:15 AM
@batman001 - Steven Sodaburg literally had to dub every line of her dialogue in Haywire. She is technically an “actress”, yes. A technically poor actress without the training to add depth and pathos to her characters... or the ability to read dialogue with emotion. She’s got physical presence, no doubt, but basically no emotional intelligence to bring to her work. That’s bad acting, plain and simple. So when I say I want a real actress, I mean I want a trained performer capable of doing more than stunts and grunts.
