Season two of The Mandalorian thankfully finished shooting before all the COVID-19 madness closed down Hollywood, so it remains on track to debut on Disney+ this October as planned.
In recent weeks, there have been a lot of reports doing the rounds about the series (which is why we recently compiled them for you in one handy place), but what about the characters? There have been a lot of reports doing the rounds about who could be showing up in this next batch of episodes, some of whom fall into the "confirmed" category, while others are just "rumoured."
Now, to help clear things up, we've compiled a list of confirmed and rumoured additions to the first live-action Star Wars TV series, explaining which returning favourites will be back, and the new faces who are about to join the show. Some of them have appeared in others films and TV shows!
We're not covering the obvious names here like The Child, but will be taking a look at what we know about plans for other heroes and villains you may not have expected to see more of.
So, to get a better idea of what to expect when The Mandalorian returns, hit the "Next" button.
10. Mayfeld - Rumoured
In one of The Mandalorian's finest episodes, Mando embarked on a heist alongside Mayfeld and his shady crew. They betrayed the bounty hunter, and ended up being outsmarted and outmanoeuvred by him after he hunted them down one by one and left them locked in a cell together.
Well, it looks like he's going to come looking for revenge in season two as Making Star Wars has claimed that Bill Burr will reprise the role when the series returns.
There's no word on whether he'll be joined by Xi'an and Burg, but it would make sense, and they're bound to want vengeance for being left trapped on a Rebel prison ship.
9. Captain Rex - Rumoured
One of the few Clone Troopers who didn't succumb to Palpatine's Order 66 programming, Captain Rex was a fan-favourite part of The Clone Wars and later returned in Star Wars Rebels.
Well, following that big Boba Fett news, a couple of different outlets (including Nerdist) have hinted that the plan is for Temuera Morrison to reprise the role of Rex, and that makes a lot of sense.
When Rebels ended, he was helping Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren track down the missing Ezra Bridger, so common sense says he'll be back by her side in The Mandalorian. However, that journey is likely to be explored in the long-rumoured sequel series to Rebels (which may or may not be live-action).
8. Greef Karga - Confirmed
We recently learned that the original plan was to kill Greef Karga off in episode three of The Mandalorian, but Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni thankfully decided to keep Carl Williams part of the series.
When he returned in those final few episodes, he embraced a new, heroic nature after being saved by The Child, and helped rescue him from those remaining Imperials. In season two, Karga is going to be working alongside Cara Dune, but it probably won't take too long until they find their way back into Mando's life.
That unexpected pairing sounds like a lot of fun, though, and we can't wait to see them together.
7. Bo-Katan Kryze - Rumoured
Slash Film doesn't share unreliable rumours, so we can probably believe their claims that Katee Sackhoff is set to take on the role on Bo-Katan Kryze in a live-action setting after voicing the character in The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. It's something the actress has expressed interest in on multiple occasions too.
She certainly looks the part, and will more than likely appear in a flashback when we learn how Moff Gideon got his hands on the Darksaber (as she was the last one to wield it before him).
It's also possible she survived losing the blade, of course, and rather than appearing in scenes set in the past, Kryze will appear in the present day to provide some much-needed exposition.
6. Fennec Shand - Rumoured
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Ming-Na Wen played villainous assassin Fennec Shand in The Mandalorian's first season, and ended up seemingly being killed by inexperienced bounty hunter Toro Calican (who met his maker at the hands of Mando after making this mistake of betraying him).
At the end of "Chapter 5," a mysterious figure - now confirmed to be Boba Fett - approached the fallen Fennec, but That Hashtag Show has claimed that there are plans for her to return.
It could be in a flashback, of course, but it's possible Fett found a way to help her too. Either way, if she's on that bounty hunter's side, something tells us he's not exactly on the side of the angels now.
5. Moff Gideon - Confirmed
Moff Gideon didn't show up until fairly late in the series, but he commands a group of pristine looking Stormtroopers and has a lot of firepower on his side. Clearly, he hasn't given up believing in the Empire, but his motivations are mysterious (what does he want with "The Child"?) and knows a surprising amount about the show's leads.
Despite being defeated by Mando, he climbed out of the wreckage of his downed TIE Fighter and used the Darksaber to escape, leaving us with more questions than answers.
Actor Giancarlo Esposito has confirmed that he sees a lot of action in The Mandalorian season two, so expect to learn a lot more about him as he takes aim at the show's heroes.
4. Cara Dune - Confirmed
We referenced Cara Dune a little earlier, but after setting off alongside Greef Karga as his personal Guild enforcer, something tells us she'll soon feel the need to return to her heroic, Rebel ways.
Cara proved to be a loyal and formidable ally to Mando in season one, and regardless of whether she's targeted by Moff Gideon or simply decides to continue helping to protect The Child, something tells us she's here to stay. After all, Cara has definitely emerged as a true fan-favourite.
With any luck, we'll continue learning more about her past when she returns this October.
3. Ahsoka Tano - Confirmed
The Hollywood trades have confirmed that Rosario Dawson will take on the role of Ahsoka Tano in season two of The Mandalorian, and while that's upset fans of voice actress Ashley Eckstein, it's a smart casting decision as The Defenders star can play her for years to come.
When we last saw Ahsoka, she had set off with her allies to try and find Ezra Bridger, and as we mentioned a little earlier, that's almost certainly a mission she's continuing to embark on here.
Whether Mando will help her remains to be seen, but it's feasible he tracks the Jedi down for help with the Force-sensitive Child. There are reportedly big plans for the character moving forward (including a possible spinoff series), so fans of Ahsoka's will need to keep a close eye on this season.
2. Sabine Wren - Rumoured
It's hard to imagine Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex appearing without Sabin Wren, the Mandalorian who accompanied them on their mission to find Ezra Bridger (and who once wielded the Darksaber).
Rumour has it that WWE wrestler Sasha Banks has been cast as Sabine, an unexpected casting decision which could work nicely...especially as Banks just so happens to look exactly like her.
It will also be interesting to see Mando interact with Sabine as they're both Mandalorians, albeit with very different approaches to their culture. For example, she regularly takes off her helmet, but he doesn't.
1. And The Rest...
It goes without saying that both the Mandalorian and "The Child" will be back in season two of The Mandalorian, but what about the actors whose roles haven't been revealed just yet?
Michael Biehn is reportedly playing a bounty hunter with links to Mando's past, while Jamie Lee Curtis may or may not have managed to film a part while visiting the set of the series.
Most recently, Justifed and Deadwood star Timothy Olyphant was also added to the series. He's massively underrated as an actor, so we're definitely hoping he becomes a recurring presence moving forward, whether it's as a new character or another familiar face from the past.
