THE MANDALORIAN: Ashley Eckstein Comments On Ahsoka's Debut; Welcomes Rosario Dawson To #TeamTano

Many fans were disappointed that Ashley Eckstein wasn't given the opportunity to play Ahsoka Tano in live-action on The Mandalorian, and the voice-actress has now responded to the outpouring of support.

Ahsoka Tano made her debut on this week's episode of The Mandalorian, and even though Rosario Dawson's performance was well-received, there are still a lot of fans who think Ashley Eckstein should have been given the chance to bring the character to life in a live-action setting.

Eckstein provided the voice for Ahsoka in The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels animated shows, and soon became synonymous with the heroic force-wielder in many fans' eyes. When Katee Sackhoff was cast as Bo-Katan Kryze on the Disney+ series, many Eckstein supporters expressed their disappointment that she wasn't afforded the same opportunity to reprise her animated role.

Now, Eckstein has shared an Instagram post in which she thanks her fans for their continued support while acknowledging that "Snips" lives on in a different medium now.

Dawson actually commented on the post, and Eckstein took the opportunity to officially welcome the Daredevil actress to #TeamTano.

I was really surprised with how well Rosario's Ahsoka matched up with Rebels Ahsoka. She actually sounded really similar to her. Rosario obviously really did her research well and perfected the voice and mannerisms.

I would still have loved to see what Eckstein would do with Ahsoka in live action (maybe someday we still will) but for now, Rosario has done a fantastic job with the role.

It can’t be easy for Eckstein to have to watch someone else portray the character she helped to create. It’s tough when you feel so connected to something... you feel a kind of ownership and responsibility towards it.

Ashley’s grace in at the very least putting on a brave face and tackling this situation with maturity is exactly the kind of response I’d expect from Ahsoka.

OT: Disney+ did this for Chadwick Boseman's birthday.

Good thing I watched the episode yesterday, otherwise her look would've been spoiled now.

That said, I'm not sure how I feel about Dawson's Ahsoka. Her design was fine, but I just kept seeing and hearing Rosario Dawson. Maybe would've preferred it if they did a Maul where they got a stunt actor to stand in and have someone else dub the voice.

@bkmeijer - I agree. She was ok, but the voice kept throwing me.

Loved it but I will say one thing that’s bugging me is that she looks nothing like she does in Rebels. It’s like she got younger somehow

@Ha1frican - What?!

Looking at those 2 photos, she looks EXACTLY as she does in Rebels lol

Talk about perfect casting!

She was fantastic! Wouldn't mind a spin-off series!

I would love to know the story of how this casting came about.

@TheManWithoutFear - I am pretty sure it was inspired by all the fan support for Dawson as Ashoka. And as it turns out, Rosario was interested.

Huh my comment about this casting got deleted. I'll say it again, should have been Ashley. Didn't like Rosario in the role and didn't understand the choice.

I thought Ros did great. She brought a new maturity to the character that was great in that it's not the same character in the same time. Things need to grow. Micheal Keaton couldn't play Batman forever for God's sake.
