In The Mandalorian's season 3 finale, we learned that Moff Gideon's cloning experiments involved creating duplicates of himself. Using the blood he took from Grogu, the Imperial had found a way to make Force-sensitive doubles he'd decked out in Beskar armour, thereby turning them into a near-unstoppable army.

Din Djarin discovered what Gideon was up to and killed those clones, something which left the villain seething in an action-packed battle which saw the bounty hunter, Grogu, and Bo-Katan Kryze overpower the Moff.

Gideon then met his maker in a fiery explosion which seemingly brought his story to a close, though there are those who believe that the man we saw defeated was, in fact, also a clone. Time will tell on that front but, if nothing else, Gideon has likely laid the groundwork for Supreme Leader Snoke's creation.

Actor Giancarlo Esposito recently took to Instagram to show off some very cool behind-the-scenes photos (via SFFGazette.com) of him suited up in Gideon's new armour, inadvertently offering a first look at a deleted scene featuring those clones.

It appears there were once plans for Gideon to actually see what had become of his doubles. Your guess is as good as ours when it comes to why it ended up on the cutting room floor, but a likely explanation is that it slowed down the finale's momentum too much, especially with so much else going on.

Then again, perhaps this scene originally teased something more for Gideon, possibly leaning into the theories that his lack of facial hair is confirmation this Gideon was also a clone, meant to distract the Mandalorians for reasons which currently aren't entirely clear.

If Gideon's goal has really been to resurrect Emperor Palpatine, however, that could be the explanation fans have been looking for.

Check out these newly revealed photos from The Mandalorian below.

I love Giancarlo just as much every Breaking Bad fan, but I hope Moff Gideon is gone for good. His character was great in seasons 1 & 2, where he was a pompous Imperial bureaucrat with an army of stormtroopers doing his bidding. But in season 3 he strolls around dressed like, and acting like a Power Rangers villain. If they do wind-up bringing him back, don’t put him in another Mando-Vader costume. Gideon’s strengths come from his cunning and intellect; not punching really hard.

@santoanderson - And he literally watched Mando on his tracking screen walk right into the room with his super clones and destroy them. Gideon was so lame in season 3.

Frankly, I don't care for his over-acting style... (it just doesn't fit in classic star wars to me, might as well make Jim Carrey his replacement.

what a wasted season that was.

Create a suit that Gideon barely uses.
The entire purpose for the abduction of Baby Yoda was to make Gideon clones, which we never see in action.
And they are supposed to be able to wield the force which we also never see.

Showing an army of Gideon clones in Dark Trooper Armor with force powers dispersed around the galaxy causing havoc would have been amazing.

Instead we got that disappointing season all to coronate the Womandolorian.

Just doesn’t look as intimidating without the mustache.
