Principal photography has now wrapped on The Mandalorian, which will be the first ever live-action Star Wars TV series, and the first of several new adventures set in the galaxy far, far away planned for the new Disney+ streaming service.

The news was shared during the latest edition of The Star Wars Show, but no new details were provided.

What we do know is that the series will focus on a "lone gunfighter" (Pedro Pascal) struggling to survive in the outer reaches of the galaxy, and that Gina Carano, Nick Nolte and Carl Weathers will also appear in undisclosed roles.

Now that production has finished up, we may get an official teaser announcing the premiere date soon.

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) and Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates) will all helm installments of the series.

There's no release date for The Mandalorian just yet, but it is expected to premiere on Disney+ at some point next year.

@MarvelousMarty - I think it is actually supposed to premiere this year, most likely in October. Or otherwise Triple Force Friday is a load of crap. I mean it’s already done filming and it’s only February.

So what’s the skinny?

This was originally a Boba Fett sequel until the Solo Bomb so now just switch the protagonist name but keep the mandalorian armor for marketing and nostalgic effect?

@IronGenesis - unlikely. the show was in pre-production way before Solo came out (and bombed). I don't think it was ever meant to have Boba Fett as the protagonist. if anything it maybe was a companion piece to go alongside the then-planned Boba Fett movie. then Solo bombed and maybe they were like "we'll just stick to the series for now". maybe the series was going to lead in somehow into the movie, but since only half the scripts were completed by the Solo premiere they were still in time to change some things around and make it more self-contained.
this is all speculation opn my part of course.

also, Star Wars is, and has always been, between a rock and the hardest of places. here's the thing: nostalgia bait is a thing, yes, a lot of media relies on it nowadays, that is true. but the thing with Star Wars is, how can you be anything BUT nostalgic for it? everyhting in SW post original trilogy, and I mean EVERYTHING, is meant to call back one way or another, by design or not, to that trilogy.
The mandalorian armor for example, yes, that is a nostalgic look because it calls back to Boba Fett. at the same time, that look is part of the lore, that is just the aesthetic that race has, in that sense every mandalorian is gonna remind you of Boba Fett. lightsabers, spaceships, laser guns, jedi, sith, the dark side, the music cues, the sound effects, the dialogue, all of that is already codified as the identity of Star Wars, all of that IS Star Wars. and if you stray too much from it or introduce other things, people are gonna have a hard time buying it. not because it's bad to introduce new things, but because said things haven't been codified as "part of Star Wars". damned if you do something new, damned if you don't basically.

I look forward to a first look at what this will be like. I tell you what, if they could pump out shows like The Clone Wars and Rebels, I'd be perfectly satisfied with SW.
