Funko (via StarWars.com) has shared a first look at its upcoming range of Pops based on characters from the recent second season of Disney+'s The Mandalorian, and there are definitely some must-buys for Pop collectors here.
There's multiple versions of Grogu, a Dark Trooper, Boba Fett, and two variants of both Ahsoka Tano and Bo-Katan. But the best of the bunch has to be unmasked Din Djarin with "Baby Yoda" in his arms.
This Pop is, of course, inspired by the heart-breaking moment in the season finale which saw the former bounty hunter take his helmet off to bid farewell to his little buddy, who had decided to leave with Luke Skywalker in order to hone his Force abilities and train in the ways of the Jedi.
"This particular pose came out of necessity," Funko art director Reis O’Brien explains. "In the episode, I believe he’s holding the little guy facing toward him, but that wouldn’t really make for a great Pop if you were just looking at the back of a Grogu. So we made the choice to have Mando holding him facing outwards, as if watching the newcomer who is walking through the bay doors. My favorite detail on that one is the slightest little upturn of Mando’s eyebrows that our designer Meg added. It such a small adjustment but it really pushed the expression into that ‘reluctant sadness’ realm. I know it sounds funny to talk that way about a Pop, but you can really get a lot of emotion out of them with just the smallest nudge of a pad print."
