Yesterday, the season 3 finale of The Mandalorian premiered on Disney+ and, as we explained in our breakdown, it was an absolute masterpiece of an episode. Titled "The Return," it felt a lot like a series finale in many ways, bringing a satisfying close not only to this season, but story threads from way back in season 1.
Season 4 is expected to begin production later this year, of course, while various other stories set during this post-Return of the Jedi timeframe are also on the way (including Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew).
With that in mind, you might have gone into this episode of The Mandalorian expecting a little something extra at the end of the credits. After all, the season 2 finale ended not only with a stinger featuring Boba Fett taking over Tatooine, but the news that a spin-off series, The Book of Boba Fett, was coming soon.
Unfortunately, The Mandalorian's season 3 finale does not have a post-credits scene.
We'd have liked to see something Ahsoka-related, if we're being honest, or at least a small tease for season 4. Star Wars isn't the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though, and post-credits scenes aren't the norm.
It goes without saying that a glimpse of Grand Admiral Thrawn would have excited fans, but it was only a couple of weeks ago that the first trailer was released during Star Wars Celebration. As for why this episode felt like a series finale, we're guessing it's because this particular era of storytelling is over now that Moff Gideon has been defeated and a fresh start beckons for Din Djarin and Grogu.
With any luck, Lucasfilm does have plans for some sort of spin-off series that focuses on Bo-Katan Kryze and Mandalore.
