Yesterday, the season 3 finale of The Mandalorian premiered on Disney+ and, as we explained in our breakdown, it was an absolute masterpiece of an episode. Titled "The Return," it felt a lot like a series finale in many ways, bringing a satisfying close not only to this season, but story threads from way back in season 1.

Season 4 is expected to begin production later this year, of course, while various other stories set during this post-Return of the Jedi timeframe are also on the way (including Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew).

With that in mind, you might have gone into this episode of The Mandalorian expecting a little something extra at the end of the credits. After all, the season 2 finale ended not only with a stinger featuring Boba Fett taking over Tatooine, but the news that a spin-off series, The Book of Boba Fett, was coming soon.

Unfortunately, The Mandalorian's season 3 finale does not have a post-credits scene.

We'd have liked to see something Ahsoka-related, if we're being honest, or at least a small tease for season 4. Star Wars isn't the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though, and post-credits scenes aren't the norm.

It goes without saying that a glimpse of Grand Admiral Thrawn would have excited fans, but it was only a couple of weeks ago that the first trailer was released during Star Wars Celebration. As for why this episode felt like a series finale, we're guessing it's because this particular era of storytelling is over now that Moff Gideon has been defeated and a fresh start beckons for Din Djarin and Grogu.

With any luck, Lucasfilm does have plans for some sort of spin-off series that focuses on Bo-Katan Kryze and Mandalore.

That banner image reminds me how much I liked R5 this season. Filoni is really giving everyone it's due in this show. Even the [frick]ing droid that died so that R2 could get the plans to Luke

Okay this season proved my point, Jon Favreau shouldn't be the solo writer for anything star wars related. Maybe if those idiots at Paramount won't give Terry Matalas another show, he could help Dave. The dude is super talented, Favreau should stick to directing. Mid ass finale

@bobevanz - I think Kennedy interfered too much.

@bobevanz - The stormtroopers asked Gideon if they should engage and he’s like “nah, I’ll let Din run around the whole base till he finds me”

How did he Favreau sit down and write this?

@bobevanz - Agreed, I don't know when he decided that he's suddenly Terrence Winter or David Milch. He didn't even write any of his movies except Made and Chef, and those were both indie movies. He couldn't even finish writing an Iron Man limited comic series.

I was expecting the Armourer to be revealed as the betrayer who helped Moff Gideon. I suspect that storyline will be expired in season 4 or a possible Bo Katan spin off. It’ll be nice to have the boys finally back doing what they’re supposed to be doing - actual bounty hunting!
I could also see Grogu repairing the Dark Saber as his right of passage as both Mandalorian and Jedi in a future season - or the crossover movie. I think it would make perfect sense and be an epic SW moment.

The finale was perfectly fine people just love finding anything to complain about.

@theprophet - I liked it. There were a couple small complaints like Gideon telling his boys to stand down so he could "take care" of Din himself.

The most badass thing in this episode was Axe Woves throwing a Star Destroyer in Moff Gideon’s head ! But in my opinion, this season gets a 6/10 rank

I enjoyed the final episode and the season overall but it is the weakest season of Mandalorian.
