The first episode of The Mandalorian season 2 premiered on Disney+ last Friday, but pre-production on the third season has actually been underway for quite some time.
Though there seems to be conflicting reports as to when shooting will begin, Deadline believes it could be as soon as the end of November, while others reckon cameras won't officially roll until 2021.
Either way, it looks like we may have our first season 3 cast addition.
Sophie Thatcher (When the Street Lights Go On, Chicago Med) is said to have signed on for a trip to the galaxy far, far away in an undisclosed role. She's expected to make her debut in season 3 of The Mandalorian, but there's also a chance she'll appear in an "offshoot series (or both)."
It seems those recent spin-off show rumours doing the rounds may be accurate, although the trade does mention that the Cara Dune (Gina Carano) and Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) project we've been hearing about "does not appear to be real."
The female-centered series with martial arts elements from writer/showrunner Leslye Headland is still in development, but that's expected to be set in a completely different Star Wars timeline - possibly even an alternate reality.
The working title of The Mandalorian season 3 is "Buccaneer," which has led to speculation that everyone's favourite Weequay space-pirate Hondo Ohnaka may show up. We think that's a bit of a stretch, but you never know!
