During last month's Star Wars Celebration event in Anaheim, California, Lucasfilm confirmed that The Mandalorian season 3 will premiere on Disney+ sometime in February 2023.
While shooting on the series wrapped earlier this year, the reason for such a long wait has seemingly been revealed courtesy of star Katee Sackhoff (via SFFGazette.com). She plays Bo-Katan Kryze in the series, and was recently forced to cancel an appearance at the Fan Expo convention in Denver.
Sharing a video on Instagram, Sackhoff apologised for disappointing fans, explaining that she "ended up working much, much later on a little show we all know and love and it made it quite difficult for me to get myself to the convention in time." While Sackhoff didn't identify what that show is, she signed off by saying, "This is the way."
We think it's pretty obvious that the actor is referring to The Mandalorian. It's not overly surprising that reshoots are taking place, as that is commonplace, and certainly not cause for concern. However, we can't help but wonder what is being changed or added to the show.
What we do know is that Bo-Katan is expected to play a much larger role in season 3, and you have to believe she still wants to wield the Darksaber that Din Djarin acquired when he defeated Moff Gideon. We've seen the bounty hunter struggle with the weapon, so handing it over to Bo-Katan and allowing her to try and take back Mandalore might be a wise move - if honor allowed her to accept it without winning it in battle!
However, Din is on his way there to regain his status as a Mandalorian, so if he can find redemption on the planet, there's every chance he will be the one who leads his people to their former glory.
