VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE Could Be Pushed To October Or Into NEXT YEAR As COVID Cases Rise - UPDATE

UPDATE: The move is now 100% official - Venom: Let There Be Carnage is coming to theaters on October 15 where it will go head-to-head with Halloween Kills. The original story follows:

Venom may not have been embraced by a lot of comic book fans, but it's fair to say that excitement is definitely starting to build for Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Hit-and-miss humour aside, those first two trailers have pointed to the clash between Eddie Brock and Cletus Kasady being an absolute blast, and with Andy Serkis in the director's chair, it's hard not to have some faith in the sequel.

Unfortunately, Deadline is now reporting that they've heard "very loud rumblings" from exhibitors that Sony Pictures is planning to delay Let There Be Carnage (and Hotel Transylvania: Transformania).

While the animated movie is probably heading to Netflix, the studio is said to be mulling over a couple of options for the Venom sequel, including October 15 of this year, and January 2022! The latter is obviously a significant delay, though it does sound like they may be leaning towards that October date as of right now.

Remember, the first Venom movie did big numbers in October 2018, earning $213.5 million in the U.S. and $856 million at the worldwide box office. Numbers like that are unlikely given the current climate as the Delta variant of COVID-19 continues to cause problems, but it could be a wise move.

Officially, Venom: Let There Be Carnage is still set to be released on September 24, though the latest trailer for the movie did simply say it was coming to theaters this "fall." It goes without saying we're a little worried what this means for Spider-Man: No Way Home, especially with no sign of a trailer.

We'll keep you updated as more details are revealed.

@TheCoonII - I would be more concerned about those than Venom 2 at the box office. Both would probably gets destroyed by it.
