Black Panther – War for Wakanda, the highly anticipated expansion for Crystal Dynamics action-adventure RPG Marvel's Avengers, is set to launch on August 17. As with all previous DLC, it will be released as a free update to those who already own the game.

The highlight of Black Panther – War for Wakanda is, of course, the ability to play as the beloved Black Panther, who is the third post-launch character to be added to the game following Kate Bishop and Hawkeye. Along with King T'Challa comes a new environment to explore in Wakanda, new enemies (and two new villains), new Drop Zone and Threat Sector missions, the Birnin Zana Outpost and more. While it was previously reported that the expansion would offer 25 hours of gameplay, today's press release clarified the 25 hours include single-player campaign content from the core release through the Expansion.

The story of Black Panther – War for Wakanda revolves around King T'Challa and his fight to defend Wakanda from arch-villain Klaw, who seeks to steal Vibranium for his own desires, and his dangerous forces. In addition to exploring the lush jungles of Wakanda, players will also get to visit the Royal Palace that overlooks Birnin Zana in a new Outpost that contains Shuri's laboratory, Zawavari's chambers, and the Wakandan War Room.

More details on Black Panther – War for Wakanda will be shared during the next Marvel's Avengers WAR TABLE Digital Stream on August 16.

If you haven't played Marvel's Avengers yet, Square Enix is currently running an all-access weekend today through August 1 on PS4, PS5, PC, and Stadia. During this time, the game is also discounted by 40%. Xbox will be getting a similar free trial period in the coming months. Marvel's Avengers is currently available on PlayStation and Xbox platforms, PC, and Stadia.

@Hulkh8liars - Best selling because of the name only and people not realizing what it really was until the free demo. Even fans of the game know a lot of people still aren't playing it and are hoping the Black Panther expansion will bring people back.

Meanwhile, Destiny 2 is a 5 year old game in the same genre and still has just under a million people logging in every day.

Look, I'm glad you and others like it. That's cool. I'm glad you feel its one of the best games out right now. And I mean that. This game's success makes more Marvel games a possibility.

But there is a reason why a lot of people aren't playing it. And the old excuse of "The people complaining just haven't played it" doesn't work here, because you said yourself. It sold like gangbusters. So if it's really so great why aren't more people still playing it if they bought it?? Like Destiny?

@CorndogBurglar - Plenty of people play just most don't team up online. I rarely play with others. Similar to ghost of tsushima It actually has a pretty large player base but is just not the kind of game where most play online together. It has a couple to a few milion online during events and then they go back to offline mostly.

@CorndogBurglar - I'm usually on 4(with tha kids),but I own it on 5 as well. Lately there have been around a million on according to steam but it's as low as 600000 in between events.75+ % of the content you can do offline if you prefer.

I don't expect to see this bring the game back but you never know. So far this game has just been recycling content and peddling (mostly terrible) skins.

They should've just made this a single player narrative driven action-adventure game instead of a half-assed looter.

This seems like a weird way to go after the Hawkeye story. I can’t lie the addons have been nice story wise but they’re so short. I just play them and delete the game. I hope all the story’s are leading to something

I'm one of the not-overwhelmingly-many people still regularly playing this game. If you have a compatible platform and nothing better to do this weekend you could give the game a try. The campaign at the very least is pretty enjoyable, and since it's free right now...

Such an important charcter not just for the MCU but for the real world too

@WakandaTech - Oh my God, can you people just get over it already?! It's pretty tiring to see these same comments over and over again in every single Black Panther - related article. You made your point, you think you know how to respect Boseman's memory better than people who had an actual relationships with him, but the dice has been rolled and scripts reworked. Neither Feige or Coogler is going to look at this comment section and change their mind based on what they saw.

There will be other Marvel projects, even live-action ones far in the future, which will feature T'Challa. You are not losing him for good.

@HannibalLecter - Yeah well here's the thing the story expansion for both Kate Bishop and Hawkeye have been at least 3 hours each to complete. I wouldn't expect Spidey to add a lot to the story.

@CorndogBurglar - this goofball logs in to defend the crappy avengers game and slam the spidey games. He’s represents the very small minority.

As someone who has played both those new spidey games and the Avengers, I can easily say that Avengers is the inferior game. Even with its multiplayer, they totally missed the mark on the game as a whole.

One of the better games out right now for those who crank the difficulty up and learn Al 8 characters. Gets better every couple of months. The new patch added one of the hardest missions I've seen in games in the last couple years

@Hulkh8liars - I played the OLT once so far. It was me as Thor, and then three identical Hawkeyes (Endgame costume). It went really well for most of the mission - until that final fight. That one... took a few tries. 😶

@Kyos - It's quite frustrating with all those attacks all over the place when the Super Adaptoid clones himself. Took me about 10 tries to beat it the first time (second actually, the first half the team left and had to try again). Today i was teamed up with two Thor and one of them basically one-shotted the boss, didn't even see the health bar that the mission was done. xD

@RegularPoochie - I play plenty of games(at least in this last year) but I only buy the ones that I keep playing such as avengers. Most the people who talk it down haven't tried it to see how fun it is.

This game has had it's rough patches. The demo/beta was a disaster and we had to deal with game breaking bugs/glitches for months after the final release. But the game is pretty fun now that it's mostly fixed. I mean I don't play it everyday since I mostly spend my time playing either Destiny 2 or Warframe but Avengers is a nice break from those games.

Hoping the War For Wakanda expansion brings new life to the game.

@Mercwitham0uth - I downloaded it to see how it would be on my ps5. It was the opposite of smooth, flight is still clunky and we got stuck in a glitch where the enemy didn’t spawn or was stuck in the map. These idiots can’t even fix the most mundane of glitches. Huge disappointment.
