Assassin's Creed is one of the most popular and talked about videogame franchises to this day. Last year Ubisoft opened their own film studio because they want creative control over films based off their properties after they weren't happy with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (I actually thought it was pretty good.) The three games that their talking most about turning into films were Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed. The question is to the general audience and myself who know very little about the franchise, ask. Can a film based off that franchise work? Let's face it, movie adaptations of videogames have been not up to par and some of them were just god awful. Though some were good (Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil.) Assassin's Creed in 3-D is something they were talking about, but still. Can it work? With the right writing and directing combination to get it started. Yes. Here are my suggestions as far as writing and directing goes that could make the film epic and be the start of a epic film franchise and break the curse from videogame to film.
Directing
Choice 1: David Fincher

David Fincher has a very unique visual style and he has chosen some unique projects to work on. Couple of them were brilliant and one was an adaptation. Zodiac is my favorite film of his but his other films like Seven and his adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo were brilliant. He has that look that I feel could fit Assassin's Creed.
Choice 2: Gary Ross
Although he has only directed three films. Pleasantville, Seabiscuit (based off of a book) and The Hunger Games (also based off the book, as well as him co-writing it). He is a brilliant director, two of his films which were adaptations were great. The Hunger Games was my inspiration for chosing him because it shows he can direct action as well as tell a dark story with depth. If you look at some of the action scenes, well just scenes in general from The Hunger Games and you try picturing it with Assassin's Creed. You can see he would be a good fit.
Writing
Choice(s) 1: Gavin O'Connor
He is an amazing writer, especially when it comes to writing drama. Watching Warrior proved that to me. I think he would write a very strong script for Assassin's Creed.
Choice 2: Steve Kloves
Yes, the writer for all but the fifth Harry Potter adaptations. He has written very strong scripts that have stayed in tune both in tone and the characteristics of the characters. He filled the films with strong drama and action sequences that built for strong films and one of the best and most successful film franchises. I think he would be a wise and strong choice for Assassin's Creed.
Whatya think? Which combination would you like to see or if you got better ideas or any casting ideas, please post them with your thoughts in the comments below. Would you like to see an Assassin's Creed film? You know where to post and remember be respectful.
Update: I actually have gave it thought and I know you guys might not like this decision but I thought that maybe for the Desmond role, I thought that Wes Bentley would be good in the role. Again, just a thought.
