Video game movies don't exactly have the best track record, but 20th Century Fox is surely hoping to buck the trend with their film adaptation of the popular video game series Assassin's Creed, and it's starting to look like they just may pull it off.

The film stars some heavy-duty talent, with 2x Academy Award-nominee Michael Fassbender leading the charge as the assassin Aguilar. He's joined by Academy Award-winner Marion Cotillard, Academy Award-winner Jeremy Irons, and Primetime Emmy-nominee Michael K. Williams, amongst others.

Check out an action-packed new TV spot below:

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

Assassin's Creed features:
Director: Justin Kurzel
Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch/Aguilar de Nerha
Marion Cotillard as Sophia Rikkin
Jeremy Irons as Alan Rikkin
Brendan Gleeson as Callum Lynch's father
Michael K. Williams as Moussa/Baptiste
Ariane Labed as Maria
Matias Varela as Emir/Yusuf
Denis Ménochet as the head of Abstergo security

Assassin's Creed hits theaters December 21

@TheBeard - I am hoping right there with ya Bud, but, I'm staying cautiously optimistic. The gaming industry may need to follow the lead of Marvel Studios before we see some decent adaptations of their materials be made. Could you imagine Team Ninja working behind the scenes on a Hollywood resourced live-action Ninja Gaiden film?? I would lose it. But, apparently signing over your rights to people who don't know squat about they things they buy doesn't always work out. Psht. Go figure.
