Maisie Williams Says Playing 'Ellie' In THE LAST OF US Is "Looking Good"
In a new interview, the young Game Of Thrones star offers an update on her involvement with the planned live-action adaptation of the acclaimed The Last Of Us video game.
Solid details on Sony's planned The Last Of Us adaptation are few and far between. All we know for sure is that the game's writer Neil Druckmann is working on the script, Sam Raimi is on board as producer, and that they both want to see Maisie Williams star as the young female lead, Ellie. The good news is that Williams (Arya Stark on Game Of Thrones) really wants to play the role too, and though we await some type of official announcement, in a recent interview she sounds pretty certain that if the movie happens, she'll be a part of it. Williams also reveals that Raimi and Druckmann actually wanted her to moderate the SDCC panel with them, but she couldn't oblige.
"I was doing so much work for Thrones that I didn’t want to half-arse do it, so I said I’m not going to [moderate]. They said fine, but they’re gonna announce they had talks. So the way it was left is they want me to do it, and I want to do it. But there’s no script, no director, and no anything else. So at this moment, it’s looking like, ‘Yes,’ but it’s still such early days. If they make it in 30 years, they can’t have a 40-year-old Ellie. So at the moment, it’s looking good, and I’d love to do it. Hell yeah."
As she points out, Sony should really get their skates on if they want Williams to play the fourteen-year-old character. The studio have an Uncharted movie dated for 2016, so The Last Of Us would really want to be their next priority. Hopefully we'll get something official on this soon.
