Last week's episode of The Last of Us ended on a major cliffhanger, with Joel collapsing after sustaining a serious injury and Ellie desperately unsure of how to proceed.

We may or may not find out what happens next in this Sunday's seventh instalment, "Left Behind," as the majority of the story will play out in flashback as Ellie and her best pal/potential love interest Riley (Storm Reid) decide to break into an off-limits mall for one last night of fun before Riley joins the Fireflies.

What could possibly go wrong?

Ellie mentioned this incident to Tess earlier in the season, and if you've played the first Naughty Dog video game, you'll have a pretty good idea of how things play out - unless the showrunners have decided to make a few changes, that is!

Check out some new promo stills below, and keep an eye on GameFragger.com for all your video game and VG adaptation news.

The Last of Us is set 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed and centers on the relationship between Joel, a smuggler in this new world, and Ellie, a teenager who may be key to a cure for a deadly pandemic. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle the 14-year-old girl out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey as they traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and the game's creator Neil Druckmann wrote and exec produced the show.

I like this show so far. I just hope it doesn't become too repetitive where every week they encounter bad people, get captured, then escape in some silly way.

Looking good so far though.

@DocSpock - I’ve never played the game and haven’t watched the show yet but that’s why I’m avoiding it at the moment. This apocalyptic scenario has always been very limited to what you can do with it. I always think the set up works better as a one shot movie rather than an ongoing series.

@DocSpock - All these post-apocalyptic zombie shows seem to follow that formula where the humans become a bigger threat than the zombies. This show has been great so far and I hope it continues in that way.

@John75 -

While I agree in some ways, I enjoyed the Walking Dead from start to finish, so I'm gonna stay with it.

I never played the game either, but I'm gonna try it soon since it's about to come out for the PC.

I hope they keep the same high standards of quality entertainment that TWD did.

Being honest, this trope of a flashback episode before the finale has got a tad stale. It just feels like information that could have been spread and dropped within episodes is just dumped and causes a show to lose a feeling on momentum.

@Knightrider - this is interesting because this story is dlc for the game.

I have no idea what the Last of Us is. Just came here to post this:

OFF TOPIC: Disney exec attempts to cover his ass for Lightyear flopping by using the old "audiences are dumb" excuse.

Yes, a children's cartoon spinoff about a talking toy is just TOO DEEP for audiences. Bravo.
