THE LAST OF US Episode 5 Starts Streaming Friday; Meet Henry & Sam In The New Promo For "Endure and Survive"

After another excellent installment, it looks like next week's episode is really going to up the ante as Henry and Sam play a big part in the next stage of Joel & Ellie's journey. Plus, our first bloater!

Next week, The Last of Us debuts its first bloater, and based on the episode promo, it looks like the hour is going to be one of the most action-packed of the season as Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) do their best to escape Kansas City in one piece while being bombarded by Kathleen (Melanie Lynskey) and her hunters as well as plenty of infected.

The episode will also prominently feature Henry (Lamar Johnson) and his younger brother, Sam (Keivonn Woodard), who will also simultaneously be trying to get the heck out of Kansas City. While the promo doesn't reveal too much about their storyline, it looks like the series will mostly stay true to the game here, and we'd imagine they'll soon partner with Joel and Ellie to escape the Kansas City crazies.

Outside of that, from what we can tell, Kathleen will remain hellbent on tracking them down, especially Henry, which is going to result in a massive showdown with the infected and the aforementioned bloater. As for how that turns out, well, we'll just have to tune in next week.

Also, to avoid the Super Bowl on Sunday night, HBO Max will start streaming episode five early on Friday, February 10 at 9PM, so make sure you catch it as soon as possible to avoid major spoilers!

Check out the new preview for season one, episode five, titled "Endure and Survive," below:

Plus, check out the featurette for episode four:

The Last of Us features Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Anna Torv as Tess, Nico Parker as Sarah, Murray Bartlett as Frank, Nick Offerman as Bill, Storm Reid as Riley, Merle Dandridge as Marlene, Jeffrey Pierce as Perry, Lamar Johnson as Henry, Keivonn Woodard as Sam, Graham Greene as Marlon, Elaine Miles as Florence, and Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker.

THE LAST OF US story takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

Might actually consider waiting watching last episode now and instead watch it back-to-back with friday's. Sound like they follow each up really nicely.

@bkmeijer1 - Not a bad idea, watched last night and it looks like a 2 parter

@ThorArms - I think I only really have the time to watch one episode coming weekend, so I'll watch last episode tonight anyway.

Good to know it feels like a two-parter anyway

I wonder if it'll happen in this episode or the next one...

Damn, I have little recollection of Henry and Sam's part of the story other than the toy, and that was triggered by rereading their wiki.

I probably need to replay the game again, but I doubt I will. I rarely replay or rewatch anything.

Can't lie, I enjoyed the game more than I'm enjoying the show. I did like this episode more than the last, and I'm glad they didn't resolve the whole conflict in one episode.

@MyCoolYoung - I have just enough recollection to know how it ends. Unless the show is going in another direction, which wouldn't surprise me either.

I'll definitely give the games another go after the show has finished though. Just to see which medium I enjoy more with this story.

@bkmeijer1 - I'm not really into the story like that. Don't get me wrong, it's well made and well acted, though I didn't like Kathleen in her brief screen time. It's just not all that different from most zombie stories and I say that knowing we didn't have a single zombie in the last episode.

The game had me hooked. I feel like I'm continuing to watch this because I played the game

@MyCoolYoung - I get that. This episode did feel like a pretty run-of-the-mill episode that I've seen a dozen times before.

It forwarded the story well enough, it just didn't do a lot of unique things to really set itself apart. Still, it sets up the next epidode nicely. And that's enough for me to keep watching.

@bkmeijer1 - no, for sure. I'm tuning into the next episode. Seems like it should be the emotional core of the season. If done right, the next episode should add to the journey nicely. Another mirror of Joel and Ellie this time Joel can't be the protector everyone keeps telling him to be, which should set up the last episode.

@MyCoolYoung - and it looks like it's gonna have some big action set pieces. Think it's gonna be a great episode when combined with that emotional side added by Henry & Sam

Weakest episode so far...btw, why are they toning down the violence so much?
Also, nothing against the actress, but I cant take Kathleen seriously...

@TheHumanSpider2 - it was difficult for me as well to get past because she was such a goof. But when she shot that guy in the container cell, I decided to give her a chance.

This next episode, I don't want them to change what happens in the games. This will be the heaviest episode if they do it right
