THE LAST OF US Season 2 Has Officially Cast NO ONE WILL SAVE YOU Star Kaitlyn Dever As Abby

After months of rumours, The Last of Us season 2 has finally found its Abby and it is indeed Kaitlyn Dever (Justified) who will bring the divisive video game character to life in the video game adaptation.

The Last of Us season 2 will adapt the events of The Last of Us Part II video game, though HBO is expected to tell the story across two seasons (the series would presumably end after season 3 unless the idea is to continue Ellie's journey beyond the games).

Splitting the sequel in two makes sense given its ambitious scope and for fans, all eyes have been on who the series casts as Abigail "Abby" Anderson. The character remains incredibly divisive - for reasons we won't spoil here - but the role needs a strong actress capable of exploring Abby's complexities in a story arc that's likely to see her go from antagonist to protagonist.

A member of the Fireflies broken by tragedy when Joel Miller killed her father, Abby later makes it her mission to avenge his demise. That brings her into conflict with some familiar faces and what happens next...well, it still hurts to think about.

After months of rumours, it's been confirmed today (via GameFragger.com) that Kaitlyn Dever has been cast as the character.

This version of the character is described as "a skilled soldier whose black-and-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those she loved."

The Last of Us co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have shared a joint statement saying, "Our casting process for season two has been identical to season one: we look for world-class actors who embody the souls of the characters in the source material. Nothing matters more than talent, and we’re thrilled to have an acclaimed performer like Kaitlyn join Pedro, Bella and the rest of our family."

Dever is a powerhouse talent whose previous credits include TV shows like Justied, Unbelievable, and Dopesick. On the big screen, she's been seen in Booksmart, Next Goal Wins, and last year's horror hit No One Will Save You.

Last year, Mazin said, "The strike stopped us in our tracks. Things were in process. Look, Abby was the first role that we wanted to tackle. We’ve got a pretty good track record of making major cast announcements and people going, 'Really?' which will probably continue."

"So people may disagree, but I think we got it right so far and the audience seems to feel we got it right and the Academy seems to feel we got it right."

On the surface, Dever is a surprising pick as she's not quite as physically imposing as the video game Abby. However, that can easily change when she begins prepping to bring this character to life in live-action (unless the plan is to make some major alterations to how she's portrayed).

The Last of Us season 2 doesn't currently have a confirmed premiere date but is expected to return to HBO in 2025.

No one Will Save you was surprisingly good for no dialog, Silent Night failed that premise. Good casting, now watch the usual suspects cry bloody murder over her Character lol. I think Part two of the game will be season three or four, unless if they make a part three by then

@bobevanz - no one will save you was awful. Why would these genius aliens who can fly across the cosmos need to come down to fight with a little girl. Ridiculously dumb movie.

@bobevanz - I liked it for the odd aliens but overall it was just too weird for me and I couldn't stand the ending.

@McMurdo - They didn't fight her. They tried to probe her but she resisted. They weren't trying to fight anyone. They were implanting an organic mind control seed within people. She just so happened to kill the first alien who tried to infect her and then she continued to resist. Had the aliens wanted to kill humans they would have done so with ease.

If people thought the She hulk discourse was bad, we ain't seen nothing yet. Imagine being the person who bashes Pedro Pascal's skull in with a golf club.

@MCUKnight11 - maybe they change course and it doesn’t go down like it did in the game?

However, if not? Lord have mercy lol

So the question is when will she go on the big chicken and broccoli diet to look like this?

Neil Drunkmann basically was so burned by most's reaction to Abby in game 2, he's going to give her a bonus season just to justify her in the show.

The new fans of the TV show will never know the feeling of waiting seven years for the continuing adventures of Joel & Ellie, only to have Abby show up in the first 20 minutes of the sequel ready to play golf.

@santoanderson - I hated how that went down to be honest. The first guy named Joel they immediately played golf with.

My comment was also criticizing what I felt was a use of stereotype to describe people.

There are so many people all over the internet saying she's too small etc... These people tend to forget that actors are given prep time to put on size if they need to.

Remember, Henry Cavill was tiny when he was first announced as Superman as was Chris Evans with Captain America.
EnergyVamp
EnergyVamp - 1/9/2024, 9:37 PM
@bcom - She aint going to put on any size bro. They start shooting soon and even Gal Gadot didnt size up that much with movie budget trainers.
