Michael Fassbender Led ASSASSIN'S CREED Adaptation Finds Home At Fox

French gamemaker Ubisoft will also co-produce and take an active hand in the development of the the pic with New Regency, while Fox will handle distribution. Plans are to have a director, script and cast by next summer.

Prior to today, the only thing certain about the planned adaptation of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed was that Michael Fassbender would play the lead. Today, we have a new report from Variety on an important next step in the process as the film finds a co-producer (New Regency) and distributor (20th Century Fox).

"We wanted to do everything we could to secure the rights to 'Assassin's Creed,' which Ubisoft has maintained with such care and quality over the years, said New Regency president and CEO Brad Weston.

Ubisoft reportedly hopes to have the remaining pieces (script, director, full cast, etc.) in place by next summer according to Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures.

Assassin's Creed III, the next installment in the video game franchise drops in US stores on Oct. 30.

Debuting in 2007, the "Assassin's Creed" franchise has sold over 38 million games worldwide and has launched a number of secondary prodcuts such as comicbooks, facebook games, etc.
