Michael Fassbender Led ASSASSIN'S CREED Adaptation Finds Home At Fox

French gamemaker Ubisoft will also co-produce and take an active hand in the development of the the pic with New Regency, while Fox will handle distribution. Plans are to have a director, script and cast by next summer.

Prior to today, the only thing certain about the planned adaptation of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed was that Michael Fassbender would play the lead. Today, we have a new report from Variety on an important next step in the process as the film finds a co-producer (New Regency) and distributor (20th Century Fox).

"We wanted to do everything we could to secure the rights to 'Assassin's Creed,' which Ubisoft has maintained with such care and quality over the years, said New Regency president and CEO Brad Weston.

Ubisoft reportedly hopes to have the remaining pieces (script, director, full cast, etc.) in place by next summer according to Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures.

Assassin's Creed III, the next installment in the video game franchise drops in US stores on Oct. 30.

Debuting in 2007, the "Assassin's Creed" franchise has sold over 38 million games worldwide and has launched a number of secondary prodcuts such as comicbooks, facebook games, etc.

^^ Read the feckin article, Fox is the DISTRIBUTOR, nothing more.

Just like Paramount was the distributor for the original MCU films (Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, etc.) before Disney took over.

Fox will have nothing to do with the creative process, it's all Ubisoft.

I don't like Fox, but I wouldn't be against Fassbender getting the role. I've never really played the games, but I always thought they looked interesting. Hopefully the movie will be good.

@TheSonicScrew i guess i just don't like fox in general the name alone leaves a bad taste in my mouth, fassbender probably picked fox cause of first class, i trust this could work as a project, it had better not [frick] up my favourite game series

but i am little worried... coz most of the time video game adaptation into a movie never turns out good ..... tomb raider sucked, prince of persia was very disappointing, doom was s**t .... and so on.... till date there are no good video game movies....

Hmm.. I'm not really sure what they mean by "lead role".. I would have to see the script, but I'm guessing the "lead" will probably be Altair, with the role of Desmond being a significantly lesser role, similar to what the first game is. All Desmond really does is talk and walk around so, that makes sense to me.

I've been waiting on news for this movie forever!! YES!!! Assassins Creed is sick and woulda me a flippin awesome movie if done right! Now Fassbender? Eh, not so sure. I love him, he's great, but I can't see him as either the Italian Ezio or the Middle Eastern...um..whatever the name is of the first Auditore.

Desmond and altair look EXACLY the same! (google it),so why do people think that 2 actors are going to play each character,he will probably play both,ezio looks a little different and connor does to,but altair doesnt

I think Michael Fassbender is a great actor but I think they should have gone with a younger more in shape actor for the action that this character would be pulling off as I don't believe Fassbender could be believable as being able to kill that many people. Playing Desmond would also be strange to see him do as that character is supposed to be an innocent and oblivious type of character and Fassbender looks intelligent and sly. He would be a more believable doctor running the whole attimus machine not as Altair. Ubisoft wont let this movie suck so I wouldn't worry about distribution rights.

At least Fox is just distributing. Don't let those assholes have any creative input in this film what-so-ever. Let Ubisoft, New Regency and Fassbender handle that.

Well I think it's safe to say Fassbender will not disappoint in any given role. It was a matter of time before an Assassin's Creed movie would be made based upon the success of the franchise (still waiting on Metal Gear, though) and it's a step in the right direction to lock in such an amazing actor. I'm looking forward to it.

@guywithanopinion Fassbender is only 35 years old and in excellent shape. Perfect age for ass kicking if you ask me. ;)

i think different actors for each generation is a good idea. it would be really weird for him to play a Syrian, Italian, and now Native american. I understand they may look the same in the games. but its a game, i think the point i just to have them resemble each other

I can't really see him playing: Altair or Ezio Auditore da Firenze, not that he isn't a good actor, but they would need someone who is in-par with their "background" as in: Someone who is: Italian or who is Jewish. I nominate myself to play the younger-version of: Ezio Auditore da Firenze, the 20-something-year-old. I'm Italian and think the whole: Assassin Creeds games are awesome! Can't wait until: Assassin Creeds 3! I wonder if they'll ever "turn" that into a movie?
