Video games don't have a good history in Hollywood... at all. That being said, there have been successful video game based movie. Prince of Persia being the most successful movie while Resident Evil being the only game based movie franchise. If you ask me, Prince of Persia is pretty good and the Resident Evil movies are fun. Mortal Kombat still ranks number one. Here, I will rank my five most anticipated movies that are being based off of video games.

5) Uncharted

I never played the Uncharted games until last year and they're my dads copies. Among Thieves is currently pissing me off but, I really enjoyed the first game and while yes, it does sort of feel like a Tomb Raider game. While I don't think it would exactly be a favorite among critics, I think it could still be a good, fun, action packed movie. I'm a big fan of the first, National Treasure movie. So, while it doesn't have a director yet, last I knew the husband and wife team that wrote National Treasure is writing the movie, this makes me feel that so far it's in good hands. One can only hope things get moving along soon and that it's in good hands.

4) Splinter Cell

I'm not too familiar with Splinter Cell, I'm going to tell you that straight up. I haven't played a Splinter Cell game in awhile. That being said, it does have an overall good story. The fact that it's being done by independent movie studio, Ubisoft Motion Pictures gives me some hope cause I'm looking at this company as the Marvel Studios of video game based movies. That is Ubisoft games anyways. Tom Hardy being said to be the star of the movie, I can see this movie doing well. Plus, I don't think they could've gotten a much better choice. Not much to go on, I know.

3) Tomb Raider

I won't be surprised if I'm the only one here that enjoys the first two, Tomb Raider movies. They're not exactly GOOD movies but, they're fun and I think they're really good. Especially for being based off of a video game. I've never got into the games so, I was surprised when I picked up my dads copy of the reboot and started playing it. I was actually engaged and had a really fun time playing it. Yes, for me it's hard to picture someone that's not Angelina Jolie in the role but, I heard Haley Atwell is interested in it. I'd definitely watch her kick ass as Lara Croft. If Captain America did a decent job of getting her name out there, Lara Croft would make her a star. I'd really enjoy seeing a reboot with her name attached to the title role. Hopefully, this movie gets some traction soon.

2) Mortal Kombat

By now, everyone knows that Mortal Kombat is my all time favorite video game and video game franchise. I loved the first and wasn't all that impressed with the second. The second film is more like the franchises "Batman & Robin" more-less. So, when I heard there was a third movie being made, I got interested. Then a reboot aimed for a darker tone and more violent, I got excited. Then I heard Kevin Tancharoen was hired to be the director. That's when everything went away for me. Seriously? The guy who is best known for the remake of, Fame and the guy behind the shitfest known as Mortal Kombat: Rebirth (it's so atrocious that I consider the short film to be taking a big shit on the franchise) to direct the reboot? So yeah, it would be number one on this list had Tancharoen not ruin my one love that's greater than my love for comicbook heroes. Until Warner Bros gets a brain and fires Tancharoen from the project and get someone worthy, I will remain skeptical and keep this at number two. Hell, I'm still trying to find time to finish my fan-made script that will hopefully lead into an fan-made Mortal Kombat trilogy.

1) Assassin's Creed

I will admit, the Assassin's Creed franchise is second to Mortal Kombat for me. So, a big screen adaptation from Ubisoft Motion Pictures gives me a lot of hope. It's their hottest property, I'm sure they will be sure not to screw it up and also keep the fans happy at the same time. But, it's more than just about whose behind the creative decisions. Assassin's Creed is a historical, science-fiction franchise that is probably the most interesting game franchise out there and has massive potential for the big screen if done right. If it were me, I'd start off with Altiar then Ezio and finally Connor for an Assassin's Creed trilogy. I'm sure the "Ezio trilogy" could be made into a single good film as a sequel somehow. I would love to see it be done that way. Plus, with Michael Fassbender not only starring in the film but also producing it. It shows his confidence in it being a good film as well as the fact he wants to be part of the project. The film itself doesn't even have a director and I can already see Michael Fassbender being the best part of the entire movie.

The Assassin's Creed movie, that's for sure. These games are wonderful, just went through ACII, I couldn't leave the computer for hours.

I'd also like to see a Red Dead Redemption movie. That's another [frick]ing excellent game out there.

Even though I'm certain they will screw it up, write out important characters, even turn it into military propaganda....

Is the big budgget Halo movie still in the works? HALO: Forward Unto Dawn had the budget of $3 and a bag of doritos and it was still awesome. I can only imagine what they could do with halo if they actually had some money behind them...

Good list. Imo would replace Mortal Kombat with Mass Effect. But the thing with videogame movies is, we all in our minds think they'll make great translations to the big screen, but they always dissappoint. Which baffles me because the material is there, they just always consistantly never deliver for some reason. I struggle to think of a truly great one. I don't know if it's because Hollywood directors/writers just don't take them seriously when they are developing them or what. Personally, a couple of my favorite games like Metal Gear and HALO I NEVER want Hollywood to get their hands on them cause I know the end product will never be able to capture what the gamemakers and voice talent have already given us and they'll probably be abominations in comparison.

Uncharted feels nothing like a Tomb Raider game. How is the 2nd one pissing you off?

Tomb Raider- No, Mortal kombat-No, Ass Creed- Definitely no, Uncharted- No (no point in a movie its already is in the video game)

Only video games I want to see on the big screen is God of War & Metal Gear Solid.

Ratchet & Clank making their debut in 2015 with a CG movie. That is the perfect form for that universe. It should have been done alot sooner.

gmoney0505: Ratchet and Clank is gonna be crap. God of War would be interesting to see how that turned out. Not really getting behind the idea of, Metal Gear Solid.

beto: I've played Gears of War 2, it's fun. But (and I'm gonna get shit for this), Gears of War is nothing be glorified violence, blood and gore to me.

@pitt: I didn't think to put Bioshock cause I know nothing of it and the gameplay looked boring as hell.

@Levi: These are just game adaptations I'm looking forward to. I know Tomb Raider and Mortal Kombat have had films but, I think there's much more potential to them (especially Mortal Kombat) than what the previous movies had suggested. I'm looking forward to the reboot cause it's Mortal Kombat, Tancharoen has no clue what he's doing. If you ask me, the first Mortal Kombat movie is the best video game best movie yet. Yes, we have Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed coming, again it goes back to I said these are my most anticipated. Now as far as Gears of War goes. Yes, I know its your favorite game (at least that's what I'm gathering from your rant) and I did not mean to upset you. I've only played, Gears of War 2. Yes, it was fun but I don't see the praise about it. I've never seen Band of Brothers so when you said "it's like if you combine Band of Brothers with Evil Dead with Michael Bay type action". I understand the characters motivations that you mentioned but no, I never cried, not even teared up in the slightest when watching the videos you posted.

By no means am I saying Mortal Kombat has more emotional weight, cause it don't. There would be emotional attachment if there wasn't always death and violence lol it's all about what a person is attracted to. For me, I'm attracted more to Assassin's Creed and Mortal Kombat both as games and movies cause I find their characters and the mythology much more interesting than any other game. A movie based off of, Gears of War just doesn't interest me unless the movie itself looks good and they get the right people behind the project. By no means am I saying it doesn't have potential, I just am not interested based off of my experience it's nothing but glorified violence. Which, arguably the same can be said for Mortal Kombat. To each his own though. Different people have different views on certain things.

Just a couple examples of why Mortal Kombat is the most badass franchise in my opinion. If you ask me, the reason the franchise has potential is because of the history behind the characters and the reason for the creation of the tournament. Everyone has their reasons for fighting.
