well alot of the stuff in arkham asylum had already been done in games like splinter cell, granted arkham was unique what with the setting and feel. but as far as i know, spiderman 2 was the first free roaming spiderman game

spiderman 2 is more entairtaining. you can play for hours and hours. i was literally playing it until my ps2 broke down. for as long as my ps2 was fine i never stopped playing it. it had countless things to do and a whole city to explore. you just couldn't get bored. arkham on the other hand had a great original story but it was not as big as spiderman 2. it had an amazing gameplay and was totally immersing but it has not much of a replay value. you can't run around an empty hospital forever and the dlcs are just challenges you can easily (?) complete after some time. they are both great games, but i want a [frick]ing open world batman game. i wanna fly in the batwing and race with the batpod. arkham might be overrated because the basic elements of the game were first incorporated in the batman begins game but no one seems to remember that. spiderman 2 on the other hand was really groundbreaking. anyway, both games make you feel like their respective superhero and that makes them successful to my eyes.

Lol, Spiderman 2 was the greatest CBM and the game was the greatest Movie game ever.

Arkham Asylum was the greatest Batman ark ever, and the game is possibly the greatest Comic game ever.

This is a tough one lol.

Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction was GREAT! off subject, I know.
I only played the demo of AA, it seemed really good. Spidey 2 was cool but got boring after a while. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows did what Spidey 2 did, but better in my view.

Just another off subject thought, the movie based Thor and Captain America video games look pathetic. They should have the team that does the a God of War series to do both. And why hasn't there been a decent Superman game yet? Smh.

My top 10 comic based games..
10.Turtles in Time.
9.Turok 1
8.Hulk Ultimate Destruction
7.The Darkness
6.Comix Zone ( not a comic but the game takes place inside one)
5.Captain America & The Avengers
4. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
3.Spider-Man 2
2.X-men Origins Wolverine.
1.Arkham Asylum

There are 2 versions of Spider-Man 2, one is complete crap one is amazing. You're obviously talking about the amazing version, but here is a clip from the crappy PC one just because.

I would still have to say Arkham Asylum though.

"This is Unfair."

Not if you read the question properly - "At their respective times of release, which of these two video games was the biggest breakthrough?"
Lansdowne5 - 1/24/2011, 8:37 AM
rocksteady should make a superman game next

I think DC shouldn't rush anything and definitely shouldn't do so to try to compete with Marvel's slate, because they can't.

I'm a DC and MArvel comic fan but whilst DC films in their current continuity have been OK with excellent moments they have all had bad reviews and have failed to live up to potential because of rushing and trying to compete with Marvel (trying to set up their Avengers equivalent entirely in one movie. A suicide squad movie that they should have looked at the script for and gone 'wait, what? no') I am hoping that Wonder Woman is not a rush job just because DC wanted a female hero movie before Marvel's Captain Marvel.

DC should just make the film's that they have planned, when they have planned them and at a pace that allows them to be of great calibre.

In summary Dc, you do you. :-P

Just wait and get each movie right, its not a race. Its art and needs to be treated as such, when its ready its ready. One great movie is better then 100 good ones WB, be patient!
