Sony Registers BIOSHOCK Movie Domains

The website, Kotaku.com reports, Sony Pictures has registered three domain names for a possible live-action BioShock movie. Seems like Sony will try to succeed where Universal had failed.

Could a live-action Bioshock movie be in the works...again? Kotaku reports, Sony Pictures has registered three curious domain names: bioshock-movie.com, bioshock-movie.net and bio-shock.net. At this time, there is no content available on these pages. Even if a Sony-produced BioShock films is only in the early stages of being developed it seems logical that the studio would want to lock down potentially lucrative domain names. Universal was the last studio to try and adapt BioShock to film. In 2008, Universal started developing a live-action film for the popular video game series, BioShock. Gore Verbinski ("The Lone Ranger") was set to direct a script written by John Logan ("The Last Samurai"). A year later, the R-rated Watchmen struggled at the box office. That lead Universal to feel uneasy about producing a $200 million R-rated BioShock. They requested Gore try to make his vision for around $80 million to help mitigate their risk exposure. Gore balked at the request. He then slid over into the producer's chair, and director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo ("28 Weeks Late") replaced him at the helm. Early 2010, pre-production had begun, but not long afterward BioShock creator Ken Levine stepped in and pulled the plug for good. Levine felt as though Juan Carlos Fresnadillo was not a good match for BioShock, nor was Levine willing to make other compromises just to see his game come to life on the big screen. Last year, Levine mentioned that he will attempt to write a BioShock screenplay after he completed BioShock Infinite. Perhaps, he did.
In the first half of the 20th century an industrialist by the name of Andrew Ryan, built an underwater utopia called Rapture. Rapture was populated by the world's best and the brightest and was seen as an unbridled success. A undetermined period of time later a new species of sea slug that secreted stem cells was discovered in the ocean surrounding Rapture. This allowed the inhabitants of Rapture to enhance physical and mental capabilities and to heal old wounds. These stem cells, known as Adam, became so sought after that a war to control the substance broke out between Andrew Ryan and one of Adam's original discoverers, a scientist named Fontaine. The war was eventually won by Ryan, however the population, having modified themselves to survive the war, was changed forever. They were now addicted to Adam and depended on it for their survival. The game starts as the player's aeroplane crash lands in the ocean near Rapture ten years after society collapsed. - bioshock-online.com

Up there with The Last of Us in my favourite games list. This was my introduction into truly cinematic video games I only play games that suck me in completely and this one held me hostage for 3 days. If done well will be good, will see how it goes though - its a challenge, personally I wouldn't risk 200 mil on it either.

Skipped the second game but the 3rd was awesome too. Hurt my brain at the end though with all it's shenanigans being all clever and such - but still great.

@McNyagano if you've played one first person shooter you've played them all. but bioshock games strength lies in the plot. so yea they are damn good.

really hope this gets made if anything to break the cycle of bad video game movies.

to anyone that hasn't played the series it is definitely worth it

bioshock 1- amazing story, unforgettable gameplay, characters, and setting "rapture"

bioshock 2- fairly good story that fleshes out the first game a bit more, with slightly more interesting gameplay(new abilities and weapons)and other parts of the city "rapture" that are as interesting in level design as the first.

bioshock infinite-story as good as the first if not better, more high octane gameplay and a nice open city in the clouds.

I am torn between which is better myself: infinite or bioshock 1 but I did enjoy the hell out of the second game and continuously go back to it sometimes.

@Reasonnnn

Do yourself a favor and go play BioShock 2 right [frick]ing now. Its flawless compared to the over hyped, over praised, boring piece of SHIT that is Infinite.

@cbmf20

How is Infinites story "as good as the first if not better"? The first game had a nice, self contained story with the core message of overcoming ones genes. Infinites story was a hodge podge of ideas that Levine admits he knows nothing about. Plot points are brought up only to be immediately dropped because of timespace [frick]ery, characters are not fleshed out at all, Elizabeth is nothing but a waifu and the ending is a MESS.

And how is the game play "high octane"? The plasmids OOPS I mean "vigors" are nothing but useless rehashes, the guns are useless and all feel the same, enemies are retarded bullet sponges, enemies do nothing but run at you, Elizabeth takes ALL challenge out of fire fights, and the "ghost" boss battle is perhaps one of the most poorly thought out and executed boss battles in the past 20 years.

If not better meaning it's up to the players perception at the end

I thought it was as good as the first because it was a fresh living city with two factions going at it and u are caught in the middle and the Idea that multiple dimensions exist i personally find fascinating

I only have played the game and dlc once so I have not analyzed it.

High octane meaning more fast paced with all the goddam enemy's in ur face all the time which I admit I didn't like sometimes

I love bioshock 1 and enjoyed playing bioshock infinite even though I wanted a little more rapture

It's just my opinion
