Mortal Kombat: Legacy director Kevin Tancharoen recently revealed via twitter that he's moving on from Mortal Kombat, leaving many to wonder what will happen with the web series and the upcoming movie. But while the future of that franchise is mired in uncertainty, Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist looks ready to take advantage. It's thought that the web series will debut sometime in early 2014 and the productions teases the Assassin's Fist camp have doled out during filming have more than a few thinking something phenomenal could emerge.

The story in Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist centers on the master of Ken and Ryu, Gouken, who himself trained under ‘Asatsuken (Assassin's Fist)' grandmaster Goutetsu. Also training under Goutetsu was the legendary Street Fighter villain, Akuma, who is Gouken's brother. In the web series Gouken reflects on how the Asatsuken sent he and his brother down conflicting paths of 'Light' and 'Dark' and whether he should pass along all of its secrets to Ken and Ryu. Will the same split that befell Gouken and Akuma occur with Ken and Ryu?

In addition to portraying Gōki/Akuma, Joey Ansah (The Bourne Ultimatum) served as director and co-wrote the script with Ken actor Christian Howard. Togo Igawa (Memoirs of a Geisha, The Last Samurai) will portray grandmaster Goutetsu. Mike Moh (Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight) plays Ryu. Hal Yamanouchi (The Wolverine) will portray Senzo. Akira Koieyama (Rush, 47 Ronin) plays Gouken. Mark Killeen (Game of Thrones) plays Ken's father.

Like Mortal Kombat: Legacy, if the web series proves successful, expect a feature film to follow.

A tease of Ken and Ryu.

Who does that shadow belong to?

A young Gouken, the man who would go on to train Ken and Ryu.

Legendary Asatsuken grandmaster Goutetsu.

Looks bad ass!! I hope they stop the Mortal Kombat web series. It was pretty bad. They should have let Kevin Tancharoen continue on with his vision he originally had for rebirth

Nooooo!! You can't be true to the origins and actual story AND translate to live action! :-p

You can do it....it just takes hard work! That's the kind of attitude one needs to take to produce and direct these type of live action series and films. Screw the fanboys who say it can't translate! just git er done!

Looking forward to how this turns out!

From the look of Ken's ponytail, I'm guessing they're going back to the Alpha time period. I'm down for it.

"You can stay 100% faithful and make it work in live action it just takes HARD WORK"

That should be told to every big name film producer in the world because its TRUE. 9 times out of 10 the idea producers come up with are predictable or dumb and are obviously cop outs. I'm not saying EVERY movie based on something needs to be 100% true to its source or anything because it DOES stop creativity but saying "It doesn't work in live action" is a load of crap.

Besides, creativity goes out the window once you decide to make a remake or reboot or use existing material in any way. Create your own shit if you're worried about being creative.

@mgeoff88 This IS the live-action SF TV series they announced last year! Some people misquote this as a TV series when it's supposed to be a web series. :)

This is looking amazing as always. Can't wait for the trailer to come out. :D

There is some pretty cool live action Street Fighter stuff. The fighting in this one is some of my favorite. I want to believe there is another one besides these two, but I can't remember.

@kjra Ahhh, you're right! Thanks! The words "TV series" was thrown around a lot when it was first announced, so I got confused.

Yah, I'm definitely checking this out.

For who the shadow belongs to I am going to go with
Akuma

Killed his/his brothers master Goutetsu and beat his brother master of Ryu and Ken into a coma. All around badass who is generally one of the best Street Fighter characters in the game, I believe still haven't played Street Fighter in years, and in the lore of Street Fighter is easily one of the best fighters.

pesmerga44 - 11/25/2013, 12:48 AM
Ya the shadow is definitely Akuma since both his master Goutetsu and his brother Gouken are both in the film I think it pretty much guarantees he is in it. More then likely the main villain of the movie.

pesmerga44 - 11/25/2013, 12:51 AM
Never mind about guessing Akuma is in the film since I didn't read the summary of the film in the beginning and saw the actor/director/co script writer is playing Akuma.

What's funny is that they are just starting to geting Comic book movies right but the sad thing is when ever they try to make a movie based of an Anime or Video Game they try to use the Comic book movie mold.
