More Signs Point To Square Enix's Mysterious Marvel Game Being ULTIMATE ALLIANCE

It seems even more likely that we may see a return of the famed Marvel gaming series, as more information on the game points towards the game's true identity.

With Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite on the shelves, and the PS4 exclusive Spider-Man game on the horizon, Marvel has seen a resurgance in the AAA platform gaming space after years of focus on mobile games like Avengers Alliance and Spider-Man Unlimited. With two new games reportedly in development, a Crystal Dynamics/Eidos Montreal Avengers Project and a reported Guardians of the Galaxy game at Eidos Montreal, it seems that isn't stopping any time soon, but now it appears the upcoming Avengers Project may have been revealed: a new installment in the Ultimate Alliance franchise.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office received earlier this month an extension to file a statement of use of an Ultimate Alliance trademark for "Computer game programs; computer game software; video game cartridges; video game memory cards; video game software" (short, semi-accurate version in non-legalese: they're saying "give us time to officially announce we might definitely want to use this"). The trademark had also been active earlier in the year, though then it was speculated to be related to the re-release of the first two games on current-gen platforms.

However, these new reports, as well as reports as to the nature of the Square Enix game, indicate this may be the same project. The Crystal Dynamics game is reported to feature "third person cover-based action" as well as ""various game modes and campaigns", along with online components which wouldn't be out of line as a description of a new, updated rendition of an Ultimate Aliiance game (though presumably such changes would make it more of a reboot and less an Ultimate Alliance 3).

So what do you think? Is there a chance one of Marvel's best gaming franchises making a return, or is it too good to be true? Is there another game you would like to see Marvel develop as they return to the major gaming arena? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!

So many memories on Ultimate Alliance 1. And I regret not appreciating the DLC packs back then, since they aren't stored on the game anymore. I'd kill to have played through as Hawkeye.

What do I think?

I think it was a mighty big leap in logic and conclusion to assume that a company that had nothing to do with the original games to do a continuation of a game that wasn't their own.

Just because you saw the extension of the name does NOT mean that that is what Square Enix is working on.

@RicksNerdLife - Furthermore, do you know what "cover-based action game" means?

Uncharted, Gears of War, The Last of Us,Tomb Raider. Cover-based games.

Ultimate Alliance? RPG.

Do not report falsehoods and inaccuracies.

The first MUA was easily my favourite thing to grind through on my old PSP. So, so many good memories...

For the love of Buddha Marvel, make an open world RPG...just once please. You can literally have a video game universe + make your lame mobile games on the side. I'm hoping the Avengers game is going to be this, it also had a description sounding like an MMO. I love those, but they're very tricky to pull off now a days in the West. It might be a Destiny like game, but hopefully not.

Ultimate Alliance is a good action RPG, but I just want to see more games like the new Spider Man game get made with other heroes. In the same vein as Witcher 3, GTA, etc.

@Menks123 - it’s not an MMO, Crystals Avengers series and Eidos GOTG series are gonna be multiple games set in the same universe.

@C38P01996 - Yeah I was skeptical it was, but the first description sounded that way a bit. I mean i'd be down for an MMO, I love them...but know they're so hard to keep up and profit off of right now (unless you're WoW). Just really hoping for an open world RPG from them.

@Menks123 - while it will have RPG elements, and Possible Solo Hero Games Made from Square could have Open Worlds(they’ve expressed Developing Solo Hero Games with bringing in other developers), this will more than likely have a hub World where you select Multiple Missions with tons of Replay Value in the missions. And Have Gameplay from the Dues Ex, Tomb Raider, Just Cause, Sleeping Dogs, And Possibly FFXV Games all mashed into one. And of course new mechanics too, with Some Levels being Exclusive to certain Characters, and most being inclusive to all Avengers. Now Eidos GOTG game could be a full-fledged Open-World, that makes more sense from them.

@Menks123 - There have been games like that, having an open world or New York City with all Marvel characters. It's Lego Marvel Superheroes 1 and 2, the first one has the X-Men and Fantastic Four. If any of you played those games, just think about to yourself, what if the games were in non-lego form, then it will be a huge Marvel game like Ultimate Alliance with quests and missions in New York City free roaming.
