UNCHARTED Star Tom Holland Talks Intense Training For Nathan Drake Role; Things Get Heated In New Still

Uncharted star Tom Holland reveals that he used the movie's production hiatus as a chance to bulk up as Nathan Drake, while a new still features a heated exchange between him and Mark Wahlberg's Sully.

With so much chatter surrounding Spider-Man: No Way Home, it's easy to forget that Tom Holland has another huge movie on the horizon in Uncharted. The big screen adaptation of PlayStation's hit franchise has divided fans - primarily over Mark Wahlberg's casting as Sully - but the first teaser trailer definitely drove home the fact that director Ruben Fleischer's vision lines up with the games.

Total Film recently caught up with Holland, and learned that the break forced upon the cast and crew by COVID-19 gave the actor a chance to really bulk up for his role as Nathan Drake.

"When we went to set for the first time, I saw Mark Wahlberg, and Mark is massive. He is a unit," Holland says. "I was in good shape, but I wasn’t by any means big. We went home for five months, all I did was eat and train, eat and train, eat and train – to put a bit of timber on, to make me look not like a child next to Mark."

As for what drew him to the project, it sounds like he was keen to take on something different after such a long stint bringing Spider-Man to life on the big screen. "I’m always looking for a challenge. I’m looking for something I haven’t done before," Holland tells the magazine. "I’m now using my job as an excuse to travel, and see the world, and meet amazing people. In a similar way to Nathan Drake, I really just like adventure."

With these comments come a new look at Uncharted. As you can see below, it appears Nate and Sully are clashing over something, and this exploration of their relationship at this early stage does have potential. As for Wahlberg, we're still not sold, but he could very easily prove us all wrong.

Uncharted is set to be released in theaters on February 18, 2022.
