Take A New Look Stephen Merchant's Caliban In Latest Black And White Image From LOGAN

Despite the fact that we met the character in X-Men: Apocalypse, Stephen Merchant (The Office) will play a different version of Caliban in Logan, and you can take a look at him right here.

Tómas Lemarquis played Caliban in the 1980s set X-Men: Apocalypse, but Stephen Merchant looks set to play another version in Logan, a movie set in the not too distant future. In terms of continuity, that makes literally no sense, but this isn't a Marvel Studios movie after all! Either way, Merchant's role remains a mystery, but it seems like he'll be helping Wolverine care for the older Professor Xavier.

Honestly, this is a little odd, but Fox has never paid much attention to continuity and with so much postive buzz now surrounding this release, we still have an awful lot to be excited about here.

Regardless, you can check out a new image of this take on the character - via @Kellvin_Chavez - below.

Logan stars Hugh Jackman, Dafne Keen, Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, and Patrick Stewart. It's currently set to be released on March 3rd, 2017, so stick to CBM for updates.

Maybe it's Caliban's son?

Caliban Junior?

Why does it not make sense. Logan takes place in the future, Caliban is much older than he was in Apocalypse.

@BatmanxBatgirl -

I like the look and I can see him being older.
Merchant is perfect for the role.

I wonder if he will still have a heavy Icelandic accent or will he suddenly be British?

FOX has a tendency to just thumb it's nose at it's own continuity and casting so who knows? I wouldn't be surprised if he suddenly sounded like he was born and raised in the deep south.

You know what really gives me hope for the film?
They screen almost an hour of it for critics.

That at least means they have confidence in their product.
A good sign.

@BatmanxBatgirl - I know! Even so its just a recast, he has a bigger role so they wanted a larger named actor to play him.

An in universe reason to his altered apperance is that a) He is Older and b) he could have underwent further mutations in his life to give him an altered appearance.

@BatmanxBatgirl -
Because people are looking for holes in this new timeline that don't exist, just so they can keep complaining about the timeline.

Probably the same demographic that hoped Fantastic Four would fail so that the rights would go back to Marvel (which isn't going to happen in the foreseeable future; instead, we just ended up with a mediocre film).

Stephen Merchant as Caliban is spectacular casting. It's just a shame that we got a meh version of him already to sour the whole experience. That's the Fox MO. Two or three times they'll do something wrong for every time they do something right.
