Alexandra Shipp is currently set to reprise her role as Ororo Munroe, a.k.a. Storm, in this year's X-Men: Dark Phoenix, but with the film rights to the X-Men set to return to Marvel, there is a very good chance that the part will open up for a new performer.

If a recent interview with Variety is anything to go by, there is one actress who would very much like to be considered for the character. While attending the Critics' Choice Awards, If Beale Street Could Talk star KiKi Layne told the outlet that Storm is one superhero she'd love to play.

"She was an image of myself, of a powerful chocolate black woman, and I just think that’s an amazing image to have and I really want to play Storm,” Layne said, before revealing that her agents are actually working on it. "Oh, yeah. We are actively plotting, actively plotting."

Kiki Layne doesn't have a large filmography, but she recently took the film world by storm with her critically acclaimed role in Barry Jenkins' If Beale Street Could Talk and will star in the Rashid Johnson-helmed Native Son.

I haven't seen her in anything other than Beale Street and she was pretty good in that.

Sure, why not?

It’d be nice to have a great version of Storm on screen for once...

@Chewtoy - Lost in the shuffle of Cyclops always getting the shaft is that the true worst handle X-Man has always been Storm, we just never realized because she got the tornado scene in X2 and didn't die until DOFP
