James Marsden open to return as Cyclops for "X-Men 4"

Somebody tell Lauren Shuler Donner

Yeah, we know that producer Lauren Shuler Donner said last week that an "X-Men 4" is a while away, but someone is ready and waiting to come back when the time comes: James (Cyclops) Marsden. Considering the heavy fan backlash to the character's off-screen death by being demolecularized by Jean Grey's kiss, we didn't actually SEE Cyclops die, so he could be alive, right? Here's what Marsden told MTV News about reprising his role:

"It's a great role, [and] if the script comes out and they want to go forward with it and there's enough for me to do in there," he said, "Then absolutely."

I agree with Marsden on the "enough for me to do" comment, considering Cyclops was pretty much side-lined for all three "X-Men" films Marsden was featured in. Sure, an "X-Men 4" isn't in the foreseeable future, but who else would like to see Marsden don the ruby-red Oakley glasses again as Scott Summers?

I will be very happy to see him as Cyclops again. X3 totally ruined him. He deserves more screen times and have his own villain(Sinister).

As long as he grows some balls and stops crying all the damn time, puts on some to muscle to at LEAST look like a leader and intimidating and omg have a much more powerful optic blast. Takes off his shades and blows up water, oooooooo ur sooooo powerful. Don't mind having the same actor but yea, the character needs and upgrade. And bring in Mr. Sinister cuz Magneto is old and played out...

Dont blame Marsden for the way he was written, is he was a "pussy", or "whiny" or more of a side character thats not his fault. I actually thought he was pretty awesome in the role but he wasnt treated right, they instead focused too much on Wolverine...
Bring him back I say!

Yeah, I gotta disagree that Marsden sucks... He's pretty likable in most everything he's in and has plenty of charisma. He just came across as too young in the first X-men flick, and then was given nothing to do in the other ones.

Both actor and character deserve better treatment in any "fourth" X-men flick.

Heres how you fix the mess they made with X3 and thus gives Cyclops and the rest there rightful return to the team.......

The movie starts with the end screen from X2. Jean is holding the dam to let the others escape, she stays behind and the others take off just like it happened originally, but this time just before she looses against the water, Bishop "teleports" in behind her(using some futuristic gadget that has to break shortly after for obvious reasons), grabs her, and "teleports" away. When the others get back to the mansion there greeted by Jean, Xavier and Bishop who explains that he is from the future and has come to stop a great war between man and mutant. He explains that by saving Jean, he stopped the phoenix and the war between the Brotherhood and Xmen(events form X3). He explains that due to the sheer numbers of mutants that were lost between the war and the "cure", that there is not enough mutants to fight the sentinals in the future. Also, he explains that the "cure" is just a cover for something that is actually going to kill thousands of mutants with in a few years of receiving it, which causes the future war that he came from.
This is where the movie takes off evolving around Xmen vs Brotherhood vs cure creaters/Xmen and Brotherhood vs Sentinel prototypes towards the end. Id actually like to see them switching between the present and the future where we would see the future Xmen/Xforce(one hand Wolvie, one eyed Cyclops, Cable, Shatterstar, etc) fighting the war and dying off one by one. But due to the events that would take place during the "present" time, the end result would be that the war never happens and that none of them "really" died.

This eliminates all of the events that happened in that god awful pile of dog puke that they called X3(Prof X dying, Cyclops dying, Jean dying, mutants like Rogue getting "cured"). Plus we can get Bishop (fan favorite) and they could throw Cable and the future Xforce into the future war scenes. I personally would like to see an apocalyptic warzone full of hardened Xmen fighting armies of Sentinels. CGIgasim for sure.

Bring him back. Character is my favorite in the books. Actor is my favorite out of the cast. He could have played a much better Cyclops, if given the screen time. He needs to lead the team in a battle and prove his chops. No Wolverine or if Logan is in it, Cyke takes his team back and takes no shit.

Yeah i wish they would have killed Wolverine off instead. or atleast give him less screen time. His character is sooo overplayed. Even in the comics. he's bad as* we get it! Now move on! use your other characters for once!

He was a good Cyclops, it's just that Cyclops was poorly written for those films. He was vastly underused and just a footnote in those films. Flat as a pancake. Bring him back and make him the leader of the team that we was for the better part of 40 years in the books.

Poor guy deserves to be a bigger star. The only likable thing in Superman Returns. I'd almost suggest him as Daredevil, but superhero flicks have not been kind to him.

Anybody see that Straw Dogs remake? I'm sure it sucks, but how'd Marsden handle the dark stuff?
Moonwalker1991
Moonwalker1991 - 9/22/2011, 5:25 PM
Cyclops deserved better in the X-men films. He's just as popular as Logan, if not more considering how he's the leader of the team. Not to mention that he's much more powerful than what was shown on screen, so powerful. Cyclops, Storm, Rogue, Iceman, all of them were underused. Nightcrawler, Logan, Professor X, Magneto were probably the only characters done justice, among others I haven't listed.

Bring Scott back!

I like James Marsden, but I don't think he has a big enough presence to be Cyclops. I don't blame the actor, and I won't blame TPTB because even if Cyke had been written to be more of a leader and less of a puss, I think it would've looked incongruous for Marsden.
