Jeremy Allen White As Wolverine? The Internet Reacts To Latest X-Men Casting Rumor

More than one source is now reporting that Jeremy Allen White is on Marvel Studios' radar to play the MCU's Wolverine, but the rumor seems to have divided opinion...

It seems Jeremy Allen White may be on Marvel Studios' radar to take over from Hugh Jackman as our new big-screen Wolverine.

Jeff Sneider said he'd heard "whispers" that White met with Marvel about a "small role" in the X-Men reboot in his latest newsletter, but there's a chance he was referring to a rumor that sprang up earlier in the week. Regardless, other scoopers (some more reliable than others) have since weighed in, with one claiming that White - who hasn't actually been cast yet - will make his MCU debut as Logan in Avengers: Secret Wars.

White has been an outside-the-box fan pick to play Wolverine for quite a while, and we have previously heard that he's met with the studio about an undisclosed role. Even though many feel that the 5’7” actor would be a good fit for this iconic character, others can't seem to picture him taking on the role of the volatile, clawed mutant.

Though White has played very different types of characters over the course of his career, he is best known for his role as the introverted, self-loathing Carmy Berzatto in FX's The Bear, and some fans find it difficult to imagine him letting loose as the X-Men's resident berserker.

This does tend to happen. Some Joker fans were up in arms when the guy from Brokeback Mountain was cast as the Clown Prince of Crime in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, and we know how that turned out.

This is not to suggest that anyone who happens to be apprehensive about White playing Wolverine doesn't have valid concerns, but Marvel is usually on point when it comes to casting, so it's probably best to take a "wait and see" approach.

Even if White (or another actor) is being looked at for this part, there is the perception among many fans that Marvel shouldn't introduce Wolverine in this first movie, even if it is basically just a cameo to set up future appearances.

After years of wondering what Marvel Studios had in store for the Children of the Atom, the X-Men reboot is finally starting to take shape, with Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier set to helm and writers Sonny Lee Sung Jin (Beef) and Joanna Calo (The Bear) currently working on a new draft of Michael Lesslie's script.

More recently, the main cast of the long-awaited movie was announced at D23, with Sadie Sink set to reprise her Spider-Man: Brand New Day role as Jean Grey, alongside Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as Nathan Milbury/Mr. Sinister.

We'd later learn that Gen V and Scream 7 star Asa Germann will play Angel, and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping star Ben Wang is in talks to play Iceman. Beast is also expected to round out the original team of five from the comics, and a recent rumor claimed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms star Peter Claffey has landed the role of the MCU's Hank McCoy.

Honestly they should wait for Wolverine.

@Irregular - Agreed. Maybe cast them and have them cameo but making it WOLVERINE and the x-men again is a mistake.

If you’re not feeling this idea you’re either
A. Not familiar with Wolverine
B. Not familiar with Jeremy’s work

He is [frick]ing perfect for this. Height, chops, the looks, he’s gonna kill it if he gets it. Perfect casting, and one of the only guys that can actually get me excited to see them in the role after Hugh.

@RichardGrayson - He’s not the worst and was great in Iron Claw but my vote is this guy:

https://www.imdb.com/name/nm8844328/

He’s got the dark features, is a tremendous actor and can go dark when needed

@RichardGrayson - I have only seen him in early seasons of Shameless and I hated his stupid annoying face on that show (his acting was good though). I'll freely admit though that that was 15 years ago and I should really watch some of his more recent work, but it's still hard for me to imagine that goofy looking kid as Wolverine.

I don't see him signing up for a multi picture deal as this will most definitely be a 7 picture minimum term.

Also how old is he?

@UnderBelly - I dunno man we’ll see… Sneider is clearly connected still so this rumor is worth listening to. He had a bad year I think he needs a sure thing now and this is it .

He was on Shameless for like ten years (at the beginning of his career though)

@RichardGrayson - Yeah, for sure. But in Shameless he was still relatively unknown. Then The Bear really put him on the radar which only went half that time. I do think he would be good in the role though, he's got that underlying temper and aggression in some of his performances which I could really see lending into some berserker rage.

But 32 now, by the time it comes out 34, Sadie is what 24, but has a teenage face, not sure i could buy into his affection to her, unless they go another route with that.

I've been saying he is a perfect pick for about 2 years, but i doubt this is the type of work he'd want

@captainwalker - I think the fact that in North America we have one person per car is a bigger problem. But we can't buy plastic straws anymore.

Yikes. I’ve set to see a casting for Wolverine I was excited about. Hopefully, there’s some great unknown out there they’ll find and snap up.

I hope Wolverine is introduced in an Alpha Flight project. His time as a leader of his own superhero team is always glossed over in movies.
Truebeliever333
Truebeliever333 - 11/4/2026, 12:17 PM
@ModHaterSLADE - I certainly didn’t read every issue of Alpha Flight but I don’t remember him leading the team. His first appearance in Alpha Flight is at James’s funeral. He consoles Heather but he is only in one issue in the first 25 or so issues.

@Truebeliever333 - I am a Byrne fanboy so I read his entire run when it came out.
ModHaterSLADE
ModHaterSLADE - 11/4/2026, 1:26 PM
@Truebeliever333 - I could be mistaken, but I thought during his time with Department H that he was a team leader before he joined Xavier.
Truebeliever333
Truebeliever333 - 11/4/2026, 1:35 PM
@ModHaterSLADE - It isn’t in the original run from Byrne. Unless I’m just blanking it.

Weapon X is Department H. And he was maybe on a flight but not in the original run on Alpha or on Beta with Wildchild and Box.

Team leader goes from James to none really to Heather.

I just can’t entirely see JAW as Logan to tbh…

Sure he’s on the shorter side height wise & could be brooding aswell as vulnerable but I’m not sure he could rely the gruffness , edge & rage of the character.

My choice is still Jack O Connell personally so I hope this Jeremy Allen White rumor doesn’t come to fruition!!.
