Kevin Bacon Speaks Briefly About His Role In X-Men: First Class, Jekyll Island Shoot Begins

We have seen the leaked set photos, now shooting has officially begun on Jekyll Island. And Kevin Bacon speaks for the first time(albeit very briefly) about playing the villain of the story, Sebastian Shaw..

Reports from Live5news(Via The Coventry Telegraph) state that the crew are set up, and cameras are rolling on the Jekyll Island set for Matthew Vaughan's mutant prequel. Apparently several locations around the island are being used. Communications Officer Eric Garvey offers the following..

"I understand some areas you won't recognize but some areas you will like, for example, the fishing pier will be recognizable in the film. So we are excited about that. Hopefully, it will drive some visitation here and on in the future,"

Fan speculation has been rife as to what exactly will take place on the island in regards to the plot of the film. Some believe that the island will turn out to be Krakoa, the living island. One thing is for sure, thanks to the aerial set pics we do know a plane of some sort(it certainly resembles the X-Men's Black-Bird jet) has a very bad landing..

In other X news, Kevin Bacon was interviewed over at PhillyStylemag.com about his return to acting after a hiatus to perform with his band. Bacon will play Sebastian Shaw in the film, and here he speaks for the first time about it. His comment is brief, but he does suggest that Shaw will not pose much of a physical threat to the young mutants in the movie..

In X-Men: First Class, slated to open in early June, Bacon plays mutant villain Sebastian Shaw. Although it’s his first major action role (the only thing that comes close, he says, is 2000’s Hollow Man), it’s not a particularly demanding part physically.

“I’ll let the younger actors do that,” he laughs. “I’m more one of those sit-in-my-chair-and-destroy-the-world type of guys.”

Interesting find ROR! At least this movie has a decent cast and director. Shame about the rest. ;) Still, I've said it once and I'll say it again. Hard to care about some sub-par Fox movie with the likes of Thor, Captain America and Green Lantern coming out!

Guys, check out my Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D Fan Cast! Just click the link!

Good find! Excited to hear from Kevin adn see what he'll do in the film. :)

@JoshW
The cast is an indication that this is definately shaping up to be a good film. Leave it to Matthew Vaughn to make a film with a superb ensemble. This could blow the last X-Men films out of the water (maybe not counting the first two, but it is sounding like it!). Can't wait to see Kevin as Sebastion!

@yankeemanf
THUMBS UP!

The old X-men comics and story were great.... Why didn't fox just follow the ORIGINAL storylines instead of Fcukin up the continuity & everything that was good in X-men...

I'm okay with maintaining the current continuity as long as they make good movies. And I'm very interested in seeing an Xavier & Magneto movie, the heart of the X-Men story.

I'm telling you guys this will be the best x men movie to date, it may not follow the source material like all you ppl want but it will be good

AverageCitizen99: It'll be a good film all right...they'll just shit all over the source material in the process. Having characters like Havok and Angel Salvadore as the "First Class" is like making The Avengers with Squirrel Girl and Flatman instead of Captain America, Iron Man and Thor. And IMO, it's not hard for them to beat the past movies, as they were all crap.

X2 is a [frick]ing great movie. The intro with Nightcrawler is one of the best action scenes in any superhero film yet.

Other great things about X2 include:
Wolverine defending the Mansion; Magneto's escape from prison, temptation of Pyro, and attempt to reverse Stryker's machine; every scene with Nightcrawler; Iceman "coming out" to his family; and Jean's sacrifice at the end with the Phoenix tease (which the third movie failed to live up to).

As an lifelong X-Men fan, yes, I would like to see more Cyclops, and yes, Halle Berry kind of sucks as Storm, but as an objective film lover, it's impossible to deny that X2 is absolutely still one of the best comic book films ever made, and it is also a crucial part of the creation of the golden age of comic book movies we have only recently entered.

Furthermore, I contend that if the entire X-Men trilogy (not counting Origins, and even though I would've definitely made some big changes to 3) was done in exactly the same way as an alternate universe one-off graphic novel or something, with the idea being (like Frank Miller's Year One, Brian Azarello's Joker, or that recent Superman Earth One graphic novel - which was very good) that this was supposed to be a very real-world interpretation of the events, it would be hailed as a fantastic take on the X-Men saga. Instead, some people hold on to this idea that filmmakers must always be adapting their favorite stories from the comic verbatim, when they don't even expect that of the comics themselves - one-offs and non-continuity stories abound, and different creators are given wide berths in interpreting the characters and themes in the way they think best - and this often results in stories far better and more critically acclaimed than the stories from the monthlies tied down by decades of continuity.

You said it, JoshW. I just don't get Fox. Don't they realize that without any concept of continuity, they're pigeon holing themselves to the point where there is nowhere to take the franchise except for the (yawn) reboot.

Great Find @Ror!!!!!
i have extremely mediocre hopes for this film, seeing as how we haven't even seen leaked footage of it yet. and for some reason, it comes out in seven months.
someone over at Fox is being lazy.

and dude,
@Emeraldknight
calm down.
its not gonna kill ya to refresh the page or even click the little "x."
what the crap????
you're overreacting to something that drains a total of maybe thirty seconds of your time.

do you watch TV????
do you see commercials???
do you like them?????
me neither.

but you know what, i'll take an ad i have the option of skipping compared to a commercial break that lasts five minutes.

dude,
i wasn't trying to jump down your throat, its just that this complaint has been heard many time before.
especially during the infamous Wolfman Ad Campaign.
"You were bitten by the beast. You bear his mark now."
even though i saw the film anyway, those two lines are now the most annoying lines to me next to Spongebob's laugh.

and as for your last comment, how can you give me my own opinion???? thats kinda fascist wouldn't ya say???
JK.

btw,
seeing as how you giving voice to your opinion, i felt the need for mine to be heard.

This film seems to be pulling from such a mixed bag of the X-Men mythos... It's all so random that I feel extremely positive about it. The more I hear about it, the more excited I get. I feel like this may just be the best film in the X-Men franchise(assuming Deadpool never gets made. That script was tits). Who cares if it doesn't follow continuity to a T? It's a different universe, so expect a different story.
