LOGAN Director James Mangold Reveals What Worries Him About Disney Owning The X-MEN

With Disney now owning the X-Men and Fantastic Four, in addition to all their other Marvel properties, is Hollywood about to become even more saturated with comic book adaptations and sequels?

Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox's film and TV assets became official this week, bringing the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises back home to Marvel. Though many view this deal as positive for both franchises, which have struggled under Fox's direction, there is, understandably, some worry about giving such power to the House of Mouse - particularly when it comes to films like Logan and Deadpool that didn't necessarily follow the formulaic superhero movie setup.

Logan director James Mangold responded today to a Flickering Myth headline claiming he was worried about Disney taking over the X-Men movies. Mangold clarified his stance, claiming he's not even "slightly worried" about the future of the X-Men movie franchise. Rather, he's worried about a "further scarcity of films that aren't comic adaptations and sequels" as well as the "ever increasing scarcity of original theatrical films."

Anyone who has looked at the upcoming schedule of films for 2018 and beyond will likely agree with Mangold's worries. It's not just Disney either; just about every major studio in Hollywood has hopped on the superhero bandwagon, and it doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon. At this point, comic book adaptations (and sequels to a certain extent) are about as safe a bet as you can make in Hollywood.

Do you worry superhero fatigue could begin to set in with Disney and Marvel?
