Nuck’s Rants On X-Men: First Class

Nuck’s Rants On X-Men: First Class

Insted of just going off on random stuff in the movie, im only going to try to stick on one main thing, and its a big one in my eyes

My biggest complaint on this movie, and still is, is the name of the movie, “First Class,” especially since it’s not the 1st class.

But I went and saw the movie this weekend, only because I knew the Erik and Charles story line would be good and both actors, well in my opinion, are very good. But that's where my love for this movie stopped and where I knew it would stop,

What made me laugh is the name “X-Men” never even came up until the last 5 minutes of the movie, it was just a joke and Prof. X said “he liked the sound of that” and that's it. So why call it First Class? Why not put all the hard core fans at ease and call it something else, like "When Erik Met Charles.” I know they most likely wanted to get away from the word “Origins” because of Wolverine, and since Magento seemed to be the main character in this movie, they should have just went with "The Birth of Magneto" or something, but people get paid enough money to think of something better then First Class and never even call them the First Class or even the x-men in the movie.

And please people, stop calling this the best comic book movie ever; it really isn't even close. Is it better them some? Yes, I’d say its better then Jonah Hex, Elektra, Fantastic Four, Superman Returns, X3, and maybe Daredevil.

BUT what this movie does, is it gives me hope of maybe a real First Class movie in the near future, even with the same director even if he is an ass, I'm a asshole I can smell my own kind

It seems fox wanted to retain some semblance of the timeline they already had going with the 1st 4 x movies. At the same time they wanted to tell the X-men origin story. So that meant not using many of the X-men from the previous films. So they told a “1st class” story with some different characters inserted instead of Iceman Cyclops and Jean.

Fun movie I enjoyed myself and think it is one of the better comic films so far.

I agree that it doesn't exactly communicate the true focus of the movie, but it's not as ill-fitting as you suggest. "First Class," refers to the first group of young people that Xavier taught. "X-men" is the name given to this group of people who play an important role in the movie, even if they're not called that until the end. So it's really not that innacurate, just misleading to some people considering there was a comic first with the same name.

I thought it was about as good as the other X-movies (which I like more than most) but I will definitely agree that it made me more excited for a sequel than it made me want to watch it again.

@ nuck82

cool article,mate.

i thought the film was good but its not as great as some like to think, but i suppose everyone is entitled to an opinion.

maybe calling it x-men origins magneto would of been better.

showing his time during world war 2,his friendship with charles & maybe show charles forming the x-men.

then big fight at the end the x-men vs magneto.

@nucks: k i think he meant it differently but to each his own.

i am fine with it being called first class, but when i look back on the movie, it would make more sense to have called it "x-men: children of the atom". not only does shaw say those four words almost 10 times in the movie, but it really sums the story up also with the revealing of mutants into society and how their different!

joob234 - 6/7/2011, 4:37 PM
@nucks (again): i prob think he meant differently cuz im a film major so i kind of understand where filmakers come from when they say they wanna stick to what they believe and want because us comic fans can be really picky, opinionated, stubborn and quite frankly, it gets annoying to filmakers sometimes.

I've never been an X-men comics reader so the character changes didn't bother me and I really wanted to enjoy this movie but I'm afraid I have to agree with Nuck and say this movie wasn't anything special.
Why do people rave on about Vaughn's directing? It lacked any kind of tension throughout, the camera work was boring, the special effects were ropey and Beast was just shockingly bad.
There was some good acting and a few nice ideas but this CBM was average at best.

@Nuck Cyclops wouldn't have made it any better either.
