Rose Byrne To Return As 'Moira MacTaggert' In X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

The lovely Rose Byrne (Neighbors) is set to return as CIA Agent Moira MacTaggert in X-Men: Apocalypse, and producer and writer Simon Kinberg talks here about her "significant" role in the movie and what will happen now that she no longer remembers the X-Men...

We recently discovered who will play Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse. However, another new casting addition has now been made, but it just so happens to be a very familiar face! Reprising her role from X-Men: First Class, Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids) is set to return as Moira MacTaggert. When we last saw her, her memory had been wiped by Charles Xavier in order to protect his school. She was nowhere to be seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past as a result.

Writer Simon Kinberg confirmed the news while talking to EW, revealing: "She’s a significant character in the movie. We ended First Class with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them." As for how her relationship with Xavier will now play out, he added, "It’s certainly a rich relationship that we started to dig into in First Class, and would like to mine more in this one."

It sounds like they have a good reason for bringing her back as X-Men: Apoclypse will apparently serve as an endpoint for the characters we met in X-Men: First Class. "This movie is the completion of the first arcs of Charles, Eric, Raven, and Hank, who are essentially our main characters," Kinberg explains. "They’re such young actors and young characters, so there’s a lot more story to tell. But as a first phase of their lives, there is this feeling of closure by the end of the movie." Could this mean we'll get a new trilogy without those characters? We'll have to wait and see!

I like Rose Byrne and I really liked First Class, but her Moira wasn't exactly among my favourite parts of the movie.

I like her as an actress. Hope she has a lot to do in this film.gotta make her look older though. they're almost 50 in thy is film. although singer has said he treats the charcters ages like in the comics...very flexible and varying....when they're young theyre YOUNG and old they're old. No specific age

Oh shoot, that's unexpected. And awesome!

"This movie is the completion of the first arcs of Charles, Eric, Raven, and Hank, who are essentially our main characters."

I keep hearing rumors that Fassbender and Lawrence won't be returning to X-Men due to how much bigger they've become and how they want to move on, and this makes it sound much more official, so it'll be REAL interesting to see what the franchise looks like after Apocalypse.

It sounds like their saying Apocalypse will be the end of Phase 1 of the X-Men films (In Marvel Terms)

I'm really hoping we finally get a new take on Wolverine soon....

Not a fan, of the actress, of her. She is very annoying in everything she is in.

I will say I love me some Insidious, those films are awesome. They scare my wife so much that she does not want to buy them, little does she know lol.

She obviously won't be THAT old, but you get the idea haha

What's cool, is that they don't completely reboot, they use small elements here and there from past installments and I assume will do so in the new trilogy. Wonder who that'll focus on AFTER Apocalypse.

Hmmm, perhaps he uses her in search of more Mutants? She was working within the government Agency and etc. But eh, who knows. However, I think it's pretty important to note that it was she who planted the idea of the "X-MEN" for him at the end of First Class.

If we assume she was around Charles' age, she'll only be nearing her 50s.

I liked her in First Class, Maybe Eric will blame her for paralyzing Charles, but she won't remember anything....

I have a feeling her character will die in Apocalypse....

@SauronsBANE

Really, I didn't hear those rumors, I wonder what their contracts look like though....

I don't think Jen was a big fan of the make-up and everything though, I liked her in DOFP but, yeah, I'm not sure how invested she is in the role....

I hope they do the make-up different in Apocalypse too, because the blue paint was blinding at times in DOFP

Yeah, in The Last Stand it looked like she's at max 50 (for heavy believers).

First Class I'd say she was probably in her early 20's?

Great decision! I really liked her in First Class. As much as I love DOFP & the original cast, it's nice to see this act as a complete sequel to my favourite X-Men movie.

@MexicanSuperman "Magento" haha =P

Seriously though, that'd be a hell of a moment. It'd really bring Mystique's redemption arc full circle, but I'm not sure I'd like Magneto going out that way. It'll definitely be interesting to see what happens with both of em.

@DrKinsolving Yeah me too, I've never been able to find any concrete info about their contract length with Fox. I heard the same stuff with Jennifer Lawrence and the makeup, but I think that was resolved. I wouldn't blame her (and Fassbender) if her heart's simply not in this anymore. So much has changed since First Class.

True, same here. DOFP was such a game changer too, combining both casts, you could tell how excited everyone was to be working with Ian, Stewart, and even Jackman.... It'll be interesting to see if Apocalypse feels more like First Class again without the other cast

@DrKinsolving Haha I'd be shocked if they didn't put aside their franchise fatigue and JUMP at the chance to work with living legends like McKellan, Stewart, and Jackman.

I kinda hope Apocalypse resembles First Class more than DoFP, though. It'd be a nice way to bring the trilogy full-circle, and I have to think that with Rose Byrne reprising her role, Singer is thinking the same thing.
