X-Men: Adam Driver Confirms Mister Sinister Casting And Reveals Why He Previously Turned Marvel Down

Adam Driver confirms that Nathaniel Milbury is Mister Sinister in Marvel's X-Men reboot, explaining why this was the role he couldn't turn down after repeatedly rejecting MCU offers.

At this year's D23 event, Marvel Studios announced that Star Wars actor Adam Driver will play Nathaniel Milbury in Jake Schreier's upcoming X-Men reboot.

While "Nathaniel Milbury" is an alias of Mister Sinister, the decision to announce Driver with that specific name has raised eyebrows among fans. For example, could the distinct supervillain be reimagined as the leader of the Hellfire Club? The recent Wolverine game showed us just how different Sinister can be portrayed on screen, but Driver has now confirmed he is indeed playing Mister Sinister.

This came during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel. The actor later went on to reveal his longtime love of the X-Men franchise (like many of you reading this, he grew up watching X-Men: The Animated Series) and explained why he's repeatedly turned down MCU roles in the past.

"I was a big X-Men fan when I was a kid. The TV show was right in my generation. Huge for me," Driver shared. "Me and my cousin, Tony, he would be Sabertooth, and I would be Wolverine. It's a big deal because I was a big fan."

Asked about Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige's comments that the actor has repeatedly turned down roles the studio offered him, Driver explained, "I mean, I was a fan of the other things too, but this one felt like the right time, and then it's X-Men. It was really X-Men and Jake Schreier, who's the director, his idea for it, and Kevin Feige. It all kind of came together. The script is really cool."

Elaborating on his decision to reject other roles (Mister Fantastic is believed to be among them), the actor said, "A lot of people are going to watch it and if it's bad you a lot of people will see you being bad. I don't want to mess it up. I'm a huge fan of X-Men."

Driver should make for an incredible Mister Sinister, especially as he's no stranger to playing villains. Handled the right way, Nathaniel Milbury can be a recurring villain in the X-Men franchise beyond, but even if this is a one-and-done—rumour has it Marvel Studios has big plans for Apocalypse—Sinister is bound to make an impact.

After all, he's obsessed with the Summers bloodline, and X-Men will mark his live-action debut, a turning point for a franchise that previously focused almost entirely on Magneto.

Directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), the untitled X-Men movie stars Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Scott Summers, Sadie Sink (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) as Jean Grey, Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue, Asa Germann (Gen V) as Angel, Ben Wang (The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping), Maya Boyd (& Juliet) as Storm, and Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) as Professor Charles Xavier.

Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) also stars as Emma Frost, alongside Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), who plays Nathaniel Milbury, an alias of Mister Sinister in the comics. There are also rumours that Marvel Studios will introduce Apocalypse as the next Saga's big bad.

X-Men will be released exclusively in theaters May 5, 2028.

4 comments that i dont see. 4 snowflakes who blocked me 🤣

Anyway, Marvel will have a hard time in making this into a hit. Might become a Thunderbilts or F4 situation

@vectorsigma - if you think they will have a hard time making this X-Men movie a hit, then you obviously know nothing about the business. but, whatever, doesn't matter. not like they care about the opinions of people on this site that they probably don't know exists lol

@vectorsigma - if they look even slightly cool in the suits, this will make a billion lol

But I also don't see any comments before yours so those people must have blocked me also lol

@DarkeyeZ - yeah right, the same business you are referring to which resulted into Thunderbolts and F4 flopping inspite of well known actors attached? The former even using the Avengers tag as a gimmick.

Tell me more Marvel apologist 😂

@DarkeyeZ - I wouldn’t engage with Vectorsigma. He has this weird obsession with marvel movies and how successful they are at the box office. Let him talk to himself. He lives in his own little world and he’s off his meds.

Man! I really hope they don’t skimp on the use of powers, some of my favorite scenes from the Animated Series was when the theme kicked in and all the X-Men were in and out of the picture using their powers to fight.

@dragon316 - you should type that again in a language you actually know. easier for people to use Goggle Translate when you use a different language than try to understand what you are trying to say in English.

I hope this means he is will be playing the 90's Mister Sinister, before the ruined him and made him overly metrosexual and more comic relief.
That change NEVER made sense. He was Dark and Sinister for like, 30 years, and then he grew facial hair and started acting like Rick James mixed with Donald Trump...worst comic character change ever...hmmm...I think it happened after the whole Miss Sinister arc, so maybe this stupid change DOES make sense...
PLEASE MCU, NEVER introduce Miss Sinister

@DarkeyeZ - he had no personality for thirty years. He had a great look, a solid mad scientist gimmick, but that was about it. Gillen and Hickman made him unique.

I feel the need to say the snowboard I had in high school in the late 90s was a Mr. Sinister one. It said “Sinister” on the bottom and the top of the deck was some kick ass art of the character. I still have that board, actually. That is all.

Cool , his comments sound good imo…

Mister Sinister has been characterized at least a couple of different ways in the comics but i can see Driver’s version being akin to the cold , calculating & amoral scientist rather then the more modern campy , theatrical & “sassy” iteration of the character.

Anyway , he is a great actor so can’t wait to see his take on Sinister aswell as the movie itself!!.

I look forward to seeing what he can bring. Driver is a good actor. And this role has potential.

This guy fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.
How does he keep getting all these roles? Who's son is he?

I keep seeing people posting that he's a "great actor", but I've never seen him in a movie where I felt he had fabilous acting ability or charisma. Can someone explain the appeal of this guy to me?

@Feralwookiee - One appeal of him is his service record. Very few veterans or national guardsman in Hollywood these days, so some of us try to support our own.

I hope Sinister kills Lena Dunham.

He completely sucked in that last awful Star Wars trilogy.

Hopefully he won't suck so bad in this.

@DocSpock - On the contrary he was one of the best things about the sequel trilogy. He practically carried it on his back. The only character that was written with consistency.
