X-Men: First Class Sequel Ideas

What would you like to see if they indeed go ahead with a sequel to X-Men: First Class?

Since there’s been some talk recently of a possible sequel to X-Men: First Class, I started thinking of what I might want to see in it and what I might NOT want to see. Keeping things relatively short, I came up with the following list breaking down 5 things I’d definitely like to see, 5 things I would like to see but could do without, and 5 things I definitely do not want to see under any circumstances…

FIVE THINGS I DO NOT WANT

1. THE SHI’AR EMPIRE
Call me crazy but I think the X-Men series works so, so much better if it revolves around the mutant agenda and nothing else. I prefer Juggernaut being a mutant as opposed to having a magical gem. This extends to the random aliens of the Shi’ar Empire. I can’t think of any way that I could justify having Gladiator, a purple alien with a Mohawk, in the film series without it seeming ridiculous. I prefer the Ultimate version where they’re more of a cult, but with the likes of the Hellfire Club in First Class, I don’t think they should really be focusing too much on another organization.

2. THE SAVAGE LAND
In a similar boat to the magical gems and the aliens, I have to include the dinosaurs. Seriously, could you watch an X-Men film with this current series that includes Sauron and not laugh at it? Hell, I didn’t even like when you were fighting these types of creatures in the old X-Men arcade game, and I was a kid at that time!

3. LONGSHOT AND THE MOJOVERSE
Another absolutely ridiculous concept of aliens intertwining with X-Men, and again, I don’t know how this found its way into the mutant storyline to begin with. It would be odd enough showcasing a character that is on a game show let alone the fact that he’s an alien that has the mutant ability to influence luck.

4. ANOTHER WOLVERINE CAMEO
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED how they included the cameo in First Class. That was one of my favorite parts of the film. However, I can’t see a situation in which having another Wolverine cameo wouldn’t seem forced and contrived in a sequel to First Class. We can’t just keep having him bump into everyone for decades at a time. If they force something, it could turn into an eye-rolling scene instead of something worth the while.

5. APOCALYPSE
Simply put, I like Apocalypse too much to see him get bastardized on screen and not utilized to full scope. You can’t have someone as epic as Apocalypse fighting an inadequate team of B or C-squad characters like Banshee, I’m sorry.

FIVE THINGS I SORT OF WANT

1. FORGE AND CYPHER - EMPLOYEES
Cypher is by no means an awesome character in my opinion, but I think it would be interesting if they could toss a cameo in there where he’s working with the government. Omnilinguism could certainly help, right? In the case of Forge, I’d like to see him working underneath Beast on the technical side of things. Forge could be one of the people influential in creating the Danger Room. Neither one of these characters would need to have detailed back stories or really do all that much in the movie(s) at all. I just think if you have a random character that fulfills a certain role and you can throw an already established person into that role, you might as well, so if Hank’s going to have someone else help him with all Xavier’s tech, why not have Forge in there instead of Scientist #2?

2. DAZZLER
I don’t even know particularly why I’m throwing her name in here, as I honestly don’t even like the character and if it were up to me, she and Jubilee would just merge and be one teenage Asian girl with photovoltaic powers. Still, I wouldn’t mind seeing her as a team member or, better yet, a cameo of her singing (maybe with DJ included in there as well?) on a television or at a concert or something.

3. SENTINELS
The reason this isn’t under the category of things I definitely want to see is because I don’t think they’d be using them, so I don’t have my hopes up for it. I can’t think of how they could pull it off, and I think they missed their opportunity to use these in X2 instead of including Deathstrike and having the plot revolve around Cerebro, but we’ll see.

4. STORM
I can live with Storm not being in this, but I certainly wouldn’t mind her inclusion. If she’s absent, I can fully understand why, as I’m not sure what type of purpose they could have for her in there (but then again, that’s hard to say considering there’s no script that we can judge from and this is just speculation at this point of where they could possibly go).

5. GENOSHA
Maybe this is just a small island somewhere that Magneto is currently living with his Brotherhood? Maybe part of the plot has to deal with him wanting to create Genosha with his powers and the help of some other mutants as a place for mutants to live freely under his control? I don’t know, but at least some reference in there would be cool to me, and if they couldn’t fit it in, no big deal.

FIVE THINGS I DEFINITELY WANT

1. LEGACY VIRUS
M-Day would make no sense, they did the cure, I’ve ruled out wanting Apocalypse in there, so I think the Legacy Virus would be an interesting story they could adapt into the sequel to First Class. Naturally, if the mutants were falling victim to disease that could spread into the general populace, our government would be concerned, and they could approach Xavier for help. They could maybe also hope to use the Sentinels to quarantine and eradicate the “problem” before it crossed over?

2. AVALANCHE
How has this guy not been included in any of the movies yet, but Toad has? I don’t think I need to say anything else about the matter.

3. ASTRAL PLANE
Supposedly, there was a battle planned for First Class that took place in the astral plane but once Inception came out, it seemed too similar and they scrapped it. I’m very curious to see a film adaptation of this concept. I think it would provide an interesting possibility to give Xavier some action now that he’s crippled.

4. CYCLOPS & JEAN GREY VERSUS QUICKSILVER & SCARLET WITCH/POLARIS
I think it’s pretty safe to say that the relationship between Xavier and Scott and Jean is somewhat like a father and his son and daughter, so I think they could capitalize on this and create a good storyline with Xavier taking on Scott and Jean as a surrogate father meanwhile Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch (or Polaris) seek out their true father, Magneto, who offers a much less paternal relationship. Magneto and Xavier balance each other out in a lot of opposite ways. In this case, Xavier would be essentially adopting kids that he then recruited into his team, whereas Magneto would be primarily recruiting his kids into his militia and THEN having to become a father to them. Xavier builds a squad out of love, Magneto builds love out of his squad. Plus, there’s the obvious match-up of Cyclops against Quicksilver and Jean against Wanda.

5. MR. SINISTER AND THE MARAUDERS
There’s no way they can ignore Mr. Sinister as a villain, in my opinion. It just makes way too much sense. As for who could be in the Marauders, as some are kind of written out already, it would depend on what purposes they could fill. All in all, they’d just be a group of disposable henchmen that could give us some fight sequences, as Mr. Sinister would be the only villain worth putting a story into. Sinister could provide an antagonism towards Xavier’s science and if you’re factoring in other things I listed above, it could revolve around the Legacy Virus and even the Summers bloodline being a key to it. On top of that, if the plot specifically deals with bloodlines and the genetics themselves, wouldn’t that mesh well with the Xavier/Magneto father stories? [Note: For extra measure, my ideal casting choice would probably be Jason Isaacs, if he can’t already be thrown into the mix as Norman Osborne for the new Spider-Man series.]

So those are some thoughts I’ve been having about a possible sequel. What are things that you would like to see and definitely would not want to see?

I want Gambit. They can have him join the x-men then quit in the end to explain why he wasn't in the original trilogy.

Sentinals is a must for the X-Men, I can only agree with the no Mojoverse thing that you are going with, and I think the Savage Land and Mr. Sinister story can go hand to hand with one anouther (like similar to that X-Men cartoon story arc where Professor X and Magneto are stranded in the Savage Land).

Wow finally a cbm writer that understands that not.everything from the comics can translate on the screen. Good list, I would add mimic in the next.movie as a.mutant that starts with the.xmen and ends up with the.brotherhood, all the.while slowly absorbing the xmens powers.

I like all of your ideas. Especially about Sinister being the villain and the virus idea. I also wouldn't mind seeing a brotherly rivalry with Havok and Cyclops. Maybe they could compete for Jean Grey's affection. Or cyclops could take up for Beast (Hank) as Alex is always making fun of him. I also would like to see a fighting sequence between Cyclops and Avalanche against Quicksilver and Riptide. Also Jean Grey against the Scarlet Witch (Wanda) would be pretty cool.

I like you idea of a battle between Cyclops Jean vs Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.
Magneto on Genosha with Sinister playing around with mutant DNA would be cool.
It would def be badass if only to find out Sinister is secretly working for Apocalypse, and Magneto has to team up with The X-Men once again to fight Sinister and The Marauders.

If any cameo I say have Cable show up from the future towards the end warning the coming of Apocalype

I'd love to see at least a reference to Genosha! I agree that it makes way too much sense for Mr. Sinister to be the next villain, I wrote an article on it:

Check it out if you want.
On a side note, seeing the Legacy Virus realized on screen would be insane! ;p

Sentinels should have been in X2. But it was still amazing. Saw some clips from First Class, and it looks pretty darn good. As for a sequel, I would have to go against Apocalypse and Mr. Sinister only because of the obvious reasons, a team including Havoc, Banshee, Beast, and Professor X isn't going to work. Bring in Scott, Jean and Ororo/Storm and maybe they can fight some sentinels, but save Sinister and Apocalypse for potential future X-men films with the entire team. Sinister and Apocalypse are too big for this series, sort of like putting Darkseid on Smallville, but that's another topic for another time.

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys!

@BooYah - Gambit being on the team would be cool indeed.

@DROMEO - It always confuses me when people aren't reasonable about things. I can understand and fully support trying to be as close to the comic roots as possible, but when people start complaining about Tobey Maguire not having the right eye color, or that they made the Batman Begins/TDK suits out of an armor instead of having him wear just cloth...c'mon. Funny enough, Mimic was on my list of people I'd like to see in a movie, even if it were a cameo. Same for Morph.

@Hearty - A Havok/Cyclops part of the story would be a definite for me.

@StrangerX - My expectations are that Cable will probably never be in an X-Men film unless they use him as a character in the Deadpool film (if that ever gets made lol). I certainly wouldn't be opposed to a reference or something though.

@CanadaMan - Nice article. I can't believe I completely forgot about Shadow King.

When it comes to Apocalypse, I'm just afraid that the most we'd ever be able to get would be a non-corporeal "foreboding entity" like Galactus was in Fantastic 4, where the whole film revolves around Mr. Sinister wanting to bring him into our world and everyone stops him before it can happen. Though I assume that would be better than nothing, it still would be disappointing to me. He'd probably just be destroyed relatively easily in the final fight and everyone would think he was some pansy villain instead of the awesome one he really is lol.

I would like to see a teamup sort of between shadow king and sinister.

I see sinister with his own version of a school, a couple of his students would be marauders but I think it would be cool if Cyclops and Polaris were two of his students as well.

The way to introduce them would be through alex's nightmares it never explains why he was in prison he was just there, I think it would be a cool idea if he was in there because he had attacked sinisters school trying to free his brother.

Shadow King working with sinister manipulates a telepath in the school into erasing alexs memories of his brother so hes not real sure why he was attacking the school when he was originally arrested.

I would also like to see beast design a pair of gauntlets or gloves to channel his energy through his hands, keep the chest piece also.

I see xavier, alex, banshee as the three coming to the city to find out the root of his nightmares, xavier is able to stop the shadow king using the lower level telepath. The shadow King seeks out another telepath at a level stronger than xavier planning to use her against him, this is where jean grey comes in.

the telepath should have also been working on cyclops for sinister as well convincing him that his brother abandonned him and left him there, which would make for an interesting confrontation when the two of them finally meet would also like to see it show their abilites have no affect on each other.

Sinister could play innocent like it was all the shadow king as well and because of his knowledge of genetics I think it would be cool to see xavier bring him onboard the school as a potential teacher. Sinister would betray the team in the next movie. when he summons appocalypse.

I would like to see magneto and charles both try to recruit jean grey because of her power level they would both have different versions of cerebro, Magneto would have taken the plans when he broke out emma frost. Beast would have just rebuilt one for xavier.

I think an xavier versus emma and a polaris versus magneto confrontation would be interesting to see as well.

just a few ideas

Great ideas! I especially like Storm being part of the sequel. The sequel should have at least one mutant that people actually give a damn about, and she's my favourite X-(wo)Man.

spartancsi - 9/25/2011, 12:25 AM
As for the sequel and villains, it has to include the Sentinels. The main antagonist from the human side could be Bolivar Trask, a demagogue for the Friends of Humanity. With the emerging news that mutants exist, this small sect could gain backing from the character in First Class (Stryker?) that wanted to wipe out all of the mutants when they were in Cuba. Over the ten years since the Cuban missile crisis, Trask gains funding and supplies to build the human defense against the mutant threat. Also during this time, Professor X has gathered his first official team of mutants to begin a mission of promoting the mutant/human coexistence. His main team is comprised of Beast, Banshee, and Havok, with the introduction of Scott Summers, Ororo Munroe, and Lorna Dane. Scott gets introduced when Havok is told by Professor X that he has a brother; this discovery is made when Professor X is experimenting with the new improved Cerebro. While that subplot plays out, Ororo is found when Professor X takes a brief trip to an African resort to get away from losing out on a relationship with Moira McTaggart/dealing with his paralysis. Ororo is rescued from a sex trade slaver named the Shadow King. Lorna Dane is a love interest for Havok who appears at the mansion one day (secretly a pawn being used by Magneto and mind controlled by Emma Frost). For the purposes of the film 'verse of the X-men, Lorna is not related to Magneto. Because of the vast amount of ties to the other films, Marvel Girl cannot be in this film but perhaps a later sequel (too much baggage). As for Magneto's crew, he is banding together a Brotherhood/New Hellfire Club consisting of himself, the White Queen, Mystique and new members Avalanche, Toad and Harry Leland. As far as the story goes, Magneto and Professor X are off doing their things, while unbeknownst to them the human anti-mutant sentiment is growing via the Sentinels. In the background, the Danger Room becomes built, hard times are reflected with high poverty and drug use. Another subplot is that feminism sneaks its way in with The White Queen trying to shift power away from Magneto by reigniting the Hellfire Club under her control (possibly instilling Mystique with a greater confidence in her own abilities). Ororo will also ignite the rising female role by overcoming her past as a sex slave when she lived in Africa.

@Spartancsi: Nice. Only thing... I'd rather have Jean Grey rather than Polaris, especially if sentinels are involved because Jean is way more powerful. Also introducing her early on could prove to be an opportunity to show her developing her abilities and showing glimpses of the Phoenix, to make up for that sorry excuse of a movie, X3.

Agree? Disagree?
