With it looking increasingly likely that Marvel Studios will announce the X-Men cast at D23 tonight (we have an update for you on that at the bottom of this story), a possible frontrunner for Storm has been revealed.
According to Jeff Sneider, French actress Suzy Bemba is in the mix to play the MCU's Ororo Munroe. Nothing is set in stone at this point, but talking on The Hot Mic, the insider posited that Black Panther 3 director Ryan Coogler may have had a hand in picking Storm.
There have been rumours that Storm will appear in the next Black Panther movie, debuting there instead of in X-Men. With that, the stage would likely be set for her and other mutants to factor into the second X-Men movie as the team roster continues to expand.
Bemba is best known for roles in Poor Things, Homecoming, and the horror film Kandisha. Born in 2000, Bemba was selected as one of European Film Promotion's 2024 European Shooting Stars and was previously named one of Unifrance's "10 to Watch." She is also the founder of the Actors Association, a group established to support French performers and improve protections on film sets.
Storm, whose real name is Ororo Munroe, is one of the X-Men's most powerful and iconic members. A mutant capable of controlling weather and atmospheric conditions, she can summon lightning, manipulate wind, create rain and fog, and even fly. Ororo was born in New York to a Kenyan mother and American father before growing up in Cairo and later travelling through Africa.
After being recruited by Professor X, she became a trusted X-Man and one of the team's most respected leaders. Storm has also been a member of the Avengers and Fantastic Four and was once married to Black Panther, T'Challa.
The cast of the X-Men reboot currently features Kit Connor as Scott Summers, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost. Adam Driver is reportedly playing the movie's villain, and while the Magneto rumours have been debunked, it seems he's either Mister Sinister or Sebastian Shaw.
Christopher Abbott, Tom Pelphrey, Bill Skarsgård, Will Poulter, and Harris Dickinson are reportedly in the running for Professor X. Spaeny, meanwhile, still seems likely for Rogue, with Charles Melton repeatedly mentioned as a favourite for Beast. Interestingly, @MyTimeToShineH is reporting today that Abbott has been cast as Charles Xavier, so we'll see if that pans out.
X-Men is currently expected to be released in theaters in 2028.
