"What would you prefer? Yellow spandex?
We've already come a long way from the black leather suits the X-Men wore when they debuted in Bryan Singer's 2000 movie, and Marvel Studios' upcoming reboot is expected to fully embrace the varied, colorful costumes from the comics.
The 20th Century Fox movies did eventually shake things up a bit by giving the mutant heroes slightly more comic-accurate outfits (the franchise ended before we could see them in action), and fans took Hugh Jackman's classic yellow costume in Deadpool and Wolverine as a positive sign that Marvel wouldn't dare revert to something closer to those generic leather uniforms.
We recently got word that Captain Marvel, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Thunderbolts* costume designer Sanja Milkovic has been enlisted to work on X-Men, and it doesn't sound like she'll be giving fans any cause for concern.
According to Alex Perez, "they’re dropping the grey leather aesthetic and adopting the recent vibrant campy/comic inspired colors... Best examples I can give you is what they did with the looks for: Sentry in Thunderbolts*, F4 in First Steps, Spidey in BND, Doom in Doomsday/SW."
Kevin Feige is a huge X-Men fan, so it's hardly surprising that Marvel would pull out all the stops to deliver the best possible versions of these characters - especially after fans have waited so long to see them in the MCU.
In related news, Riverdale star KJ Apa revealed that he auditioned for, but didn't land, a role in the reboot during an interview with Collider (he didn't specify which character he read for).
After years of wondering what Marvel Studios had in store for the Children of the Atom, the X-Men reboot is finally starting to take shape, with Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier set to helm and writers Sonny Lee Sung Jin (Beef) and Joanna Calo (The Bear) currently working on a new draft of Michael Lesslie's script.
More recently, the main cast of the long-awaited movie was announced at D23, with Sadie Sink set to reprise her Spider-Man: Brand New Day role as Jean Grey, alongside Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as Nathan Milbury/Mr. Sinister.
We'd later learn that Gen V and Scream 7 star Asa Germann will play Angel, and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping star Ben Wang is in talks to play Iceman. Beast is also expected to round out the original team of five from the comics, and a recent rumor claimed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms star Peter Claffey has landed the role of the MCU's Hank McCoy.
