BOX OFFICE: CHRONICLE Tied With THE WOMAN IN BLACK For First Place

Fox's critically successful superhero/found footage film, Chronicle, is currently tied with CBS Films' The Woman In Black in early predictions for the Super Bowl Weekend's box office. More after the jump.

Early predictions for this weekend at the box office suggest that 20th Century Fox's Chronicle - a found footage/superhero film directed by Josh Trank which follows three teenagers with super powers - will possibly make the same amount as as CBS Films' The Woman In Black. Deadline says that both films will likely make $5-7 million on Friday, and perhaps $13-15 million over the weekend. So far, Woman In Black has held onto a slight lead longer than expected, and could come out on top. Still, check back later this weekend for a clearer idea of what to expect.

It's been said that, should Chronicle be a success at the box office, Fox could hire Josh Trank to helm their reboot of the Fantastic Four film franchise. The movie has received good word of mouth so far (it currently has an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 100 reviews), so there's a good chance that the strong reception will help its box office intake. Chronicle is in UK theaters now, and opens in the US tomorrow.
