Box Office Updates For BATTLESHIP And THE HUNGER GAMES

A couple of box office updates here for you. First off, we have news on Battleship's current overseas performance (which like The Avengers still isn't out in the US) and the latest on The Hunger Games worldwide gross.

Deadline reports that Universal and Peter Berg's Battleship has now made a total of $170.9M in the 50 territories it has so far opened in. In its third week of international release, the film made 22.5M and while this total is impressive, it's nothing in comparison to what Marvel's The Avengers has made in just 39 territories over the past 5 days. The film will be released in the US on April 18th. In other news, Lionsgate has announced that the worldwide box office total for The Hunger Games is $601M. That's £372.4M from North America and $228.5M internationally.

I think you meant May, not April 18. Or maybe I forgot about Derka Derkastan, where it only opens April 18 2013. Maybe thats where I went wrong. And 170 seems pretty lame to me. Even though I liked Battleshit. But it opens too late in US, so it has to compete with The Avengers. And we all know who'll win.

Battleship was good fun to watch.......hunger games would have to be the worst movie I've seen in cinema for a long time terrible effects, bad camera work and director just winging it on the action scenes. It will make a great movie for 14 year old girls PJ party.

Well I guess good for Battleship. I was hoping it was going to fail so badly to avoid Chutes and Ladders or Candyland the movie, but oh well. I guess as long as its entertaining.

About the Hunger Games: I think the effects were decent enough considering their budget. The fire dress effect was the best, very pretty. The camera work and "action" is definitely where the film really fell short for me, could barely see shit on the action scenes and you only saw two kids get killed and they weren't even the more gruesome deaths. The score should have been stronger too. Still 1000000x more watchable than Twicrap but they could have done much better.

@kirbyfan: 170 is lame because now it has to compete with The Avengers - for a real box office success it should have already earned enough before that, so if it loses against The Avengers, it still would have grossed enough.

@aussyace yeah it was good fun lots of action and it didn't take itself to seriously...not every movie needs to be deep and meaningful.

I'm still hoping that the success of Battleship leads to my lifelong dream to see Hungry Hungry Hippos: The Movie.
