CHRONICLE: Source Of Superpowers Finally Revealed By Max Landis

Chronicle screenwriter, Max Landis ("Me Him Her"), recently chatted with Buzzfeed about his version of Chronicle 2 (20th Century Fox passed on) and the mysterious source of Andrew (Dane DeHaan), Matt (Alex Russell), and Steve's (Michael B. Jordan) superpowers.

Buzzfeed has posted a really great in-depth article about screenwriter, Max Landis. A small portion of it delves into Chronicle 2, a script that was written by Landis, but was ultimately thought of as too dark for 20th Century Fox. They wanted to go in a different direction. Which is a shame because most people were hoping that a lingering mystery from the first film (directed by Josh Trank) would be explained by the original screenwriter in the sequel. Which is, how did Andrew (Dane DeHaan), Matt (Alex Russell) and Steve (Michael B. Jordan) acquire their superpowers? We saw all three drawn to a hole in the woods that was emitting a humming noise. Then they proceeded into the hole and followed a tunnel that lead them into a cavern housing a large mysterious greenish crystal. When the crystal began to glow, and Steve's nose bleed, the scene cuts to black. That's it... until now. Landis has filled in some blanks.
One minor disappointment was his removal from the Chronicle sequel, a result of Fox balking at a very dark script that presented two embittered souls as antiheroes trying to catch the survivor of the first film. Landis had a whole trilogy mapped out in his mind, including the revelation of the mysterious source of the heroes’ powers, Massive Organic Geoelectric Objects, which he says are “a race of crystalline organisms that communicate and propel themselves through radio waves, and turn higher life forms into telekinetic drones.”

Three high school friends gain the superhuman abilities of telekinesis, flight, and invulnerability after making an incredible discovery in a mysterious crater. Soon, though, they find their lives spinning out of control and their bond tested as one of them, Andrew Detmer, embraces his darker side.

Even though he is contemptuous prick there really is o point in having a sequel if he is not connected. Is it just me or is his casting for the new FF just terrible. I mean i dont like a single choice I've seen.

"a race of crystalline organisms that communicate and propel themselves through radio waves, and turn higher life forms into telekinetic drones.”

Interesting. Kinda.

Wonder what new screenwriter gonna make out of it now.

It's pretty obvious that too dark screenplay is not the case here. Landis is not the kind of guy who can be controlled by the studio. I don't think he can even be negotiated with. I don't know this guy personally but he seems to be kind of ... narcisitc ? Here's hope i'm wrong.

anyway it sounds interesting becasue it's not the higher life form that's manipulating people. It's the other way around.

He can come across a bit douchey but whatever you think of him personally, there's no denying his passion an talent. Chronicle 2 would have been better with him on board.

Max is just passionate about the same shit we are all passionate about... difference is his voice finds far more listeners.

Also a very talented guy, Chronicle was a great movie. Many bigger budget, more successful movies ahem Man of Steel... could learn something about character development from that film.

Wait, MOGO?!?
Seriously, though, how indicative of Hollywood is this? I mean, I don't like this guy. Don't know why, no good reason, just rubs against me. But he did this film that he probably had a struggle to get made the way he wanted it and now it's a success, they just take it off him and change it all, even though he had a whole trilogy mapped out. I this guy is Chronicle and Chronicle is this guy, right? What a crock of shit. I have no interest in the sequel, now.

I love reading the absolute hatred some of the posters here have for Landis after he disagreed with MoS and had the stones to present an alternative concept that was great. Makes you all look like a jealous bunch of haters frankly.

Uh ok I guess, sorry the guy is too big of douche for me to even want to support his ish. And Chronicle was nothing more than a rip on Akira which was way better.
