Danny Boyle Isn't Interested In Helming BOND 24; Nearly Directed ALIEN 4

Despite being a fan favourite choice, the 127 Hours and Trance director says that he has little to no interest in tackling a big budget blockbuster like James Bond 24, but does reveal that he once came close to helming the fourth Alien movie.

Danny Boyle has been a fan favourite choice to helm a Bond movie for a long time now, especially after he directed a short sequence for last year's London Olympics which featured Daniel Craig's James Bond meeting the Queen. With Sam Mendes making the decision to not return for the next instalment in the franchise, does that mean Boyle will consider helming James Bond 24? "No," he told fans in an hour long 'Conversation with Danny Boyle' in New York. "I much prefer to have a ceiling. A ceiling that is limiting us and you try and break through. We want our films to look like $100 million dollars, that’s for sure. And we want them to sound like $200 million. But you try and do that with that cap on them. And that’s where the energy, belief and evangelical nature of the process comes from."

We probably shouldn't expect to see him take on any other sort of big budget blockbusters either. "I love watching those movies, I’m a big fan," he revealed. "Chris Nolan, Ridley Scott and they mustn't stop making them, but they are not really the ones for me." However, he did once come close to directing the fourth movie in the Alien franchise. "I got involved briefly, with ‘Alien 4.’ After ‘Trainspotting’ my head was turned. Partly because I loved the ‘Alien’ movies, but I realized very quickly that I couldn’t make one. You wouldn’t get the best out of me at all." The Playlist also points to another interview with Boyle which took place at SXSW in which he reiterated that a Bond movie just isn't for him. "It’s not for me, I’m afraid. They’re different kinds of films, you know? They’re huge. They’re just huge. They wouldn’t get the best out of me, doing that sort of thing. Would you guys like to see Boyle take on a comic book movie?
