Everyone knows the legend of Hercules and his twelve labors. Our story begins after the labors, and after the legend… Haunted by a sin from his past, Hercules has become a mercenary. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies. But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules’ help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail… he must again become the hero he once was… he must embrace his own myth… he must be Hercules.

Hercules stars Dwayne Johnson, Aksel Hennie, Rufus Sewell, Ian McShane, Joseph Fiennes, John Hurt, Rebecca Ferguson and Tobias Santelmann. The film is set to hit theaters July 25th, 2014.

Guys, it's directed by Brett Ratner and is completely removing all fantasy elements from the mythology in favor of a standard action flick. Yes, The Rock is great but adjust your expectations accordingly.

Brett Ratner has made some good movies. Rush Hour 1 & 2 were excellent. Red Dragon was good too.

How bout The Rock for Hercules in the MCU? That'd be pretty decent.

Can't really tell but they must have covered his Samoan tattoos.
Wouldn't make sense for a Hercules to have those markings on his body.

The Rock looks brutal. Hope this film kills.

"Rush Hour 1 & 2 were excellent. Red Dragon was good too."

We'll agree to disagree there. I think he's a journeyman that studios hire simply because he's cheap, and they can control him. ..and I'm not even giving him shit for X3 which I actually think is probably his best movie!

..Red Dragon was ok.

The comic this is based on didn't have that many fantasy elements either, this film could be good, even though it does have an uphill struggle.

MarkCassidy - 8/9/2013, 7:18 AM
Yeah I know the comic that it's based on is the same..and I have no interest in reading that either! Why make/write Hercules if you're not going to include stories about...Hercules! The whole mythology is based around monsters, Gods, creatures etc. If you want to make an action movie about some tough mother[frick]er living in ancient Greece then make up another character!

@ RorMachine

I get that sense too. He's competent but not visionary, and his better movies are saved but other elements in the film. Last Stand demonstrates that pretty well. It was OKAY by itself but a big letdown after X2.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 8/9/2013, 7:28 AM
I didn't hate X3 at all. Well, by the end I had got a bit sick of it but there were a few very good elements..Kelsey Grammar as Beast for example.

@Ror damn, NO fantasy elements in this?! My expectations have gone down a little...
robsncoppers

I agree with you on X3. Kelsey Grammar was a great choice. Before I had heard the negative reaction from the comic book community, I came away thinking it was pretty good though not my favorite. It did feel like a smaller world than had been set up by X2. All of a sudden all the mutants in the world were in San Fran and what felt like a global event in the previous film was now a skirmish.

But I am super happy with the willingness to move forward with the franchise with DOFP and that stinger at the end of The Wolverine. They are saving the continuity and the characters they've created for a few more films. (I am starting to turn on the idea of the obligatory reboot, a regular sequel to a franchise seems refreshing)
