Godzilla Vs. Kong helmer Adam Wingard is set to write and direct a Face/Off sequel for Paramount.
Variety originally reported that the fan-favorite filmmaker was working on a remake of John Woo's 1997 action thriller, but Wingard and the project's co-writer Simon Barrett later took to social media to clarify that it's actually going to be a direct sequel.
The original starred John Travolta and Nicolas Cage as an FBI special agent and a terrorist, respectively, who literally swap faces and assume each others' identities (against the former's will). It's generally seen as a silly, but fun diversion, and has gained a strong cult following over the years.
As far as we know, Travola and Cage will not be reprising their roles, as the movie is expected to "have a brand new cast." Whether that means different actors will be brought in to play Sean Archer and Castor Troy is unclear.
