FREE GUY Features The Year's Best Cameo (Made Possible By The Disney/Fox Merger) - SPOILERS

Free Guy arrived in theaters yesterday, and we can't recommend it highly enough! It's a movie that features a lot of cameos, but there's one in particular which, honestly, is the best you'll see in 2021...

Free Guy takes place in a video game world where Ryan Reynolds' "Guy" is an NPC who gains sentience and finally starts to enjoy the world around him. Without getting into detailed spoilers, his story soon catches the attention of the real world, and people tune in near the end of the movie to watch him attempt to gain his freedom.

That involves a fight with "Dude," a formidable opponent Guy finds himself overwhelmed by.

It's during this battle that the NPC uses a familiar power-up: Captain America's shield! Alan Silvestri's classic Avengers score kicks in, and Reynolds wields the shield to deflect a life-ending attack. With that, Chris Evans is shown watching the fight on his cell phone in a coffee shop as he exclaims, "What the sh*t?!" We're not kidding when we say this has to be the year's best cameo!

Of course, this scene was only made possible by Disney inheriting Free Guy from 20th Century Fox during the Disney/Fox merger, and it's followed by Reynolds' Guy wielding a lightsaber as the Star Wars theme plays in the background. Neither moment feels forced, and both need to be seen to be believed.

There are other great cameos in the movie, including Channing Tatum in a memorable role, several popular gaming YouTubers, and voice performances from Dwayne Johnson, John Krasinski, Tina Fey, and Hugh Jackman.

In our review of Free Guy, we concluded by saying: "Hilarious, heartwarming, and action-packed, Free Guy is everything a video game movie should be, and sees Ryan Reynolds deliver one of his finest comedic performances in a blockbuster best played on the big screen."

Are you planning to watch the movie this weekend?

For me it's between this, Michael B. Jordan in Space Jam and Furby in Mitchells Vs. The Machines for cameo of the year.

I have a question.

When this movie comes out of theaters, where does it go for streaming service? D+? Hulu?

@Menks123 - Fox already sold it to HBO Max years ago. Well at least for the first pass. After that we haven't heard as yet.

I rolled my eyes at that part, I'd give it a 7. It always bothers me that Ryan Reynolds always plays Ryan Reynolds in literally every movie, and the ending was cringey af. But I still enjoyed it for the most part, Lil Rey needs to stop taking generic "yelling black guy" roles lol

I am really interested in watching this, but not feeling being in a theater yet. If it was available for premium I would gladly pay for it, but for now I'll wait to see it for free later. I'm curious if it will go right to HBO Max or rental first, but I might not be as enthusiastic to rent it at that point if it's out.

So, I'm kind of curious what the response is at this point in the pandemic. Am I in the minority here? Would the film have been a BO surprise under more normal conditions?

Wait, did the article seriously just claim that a scene where props from two Disney properties show up, with accompanying musical scores, and having characters talk about how cool it is, didn’t feel forced? It was a noticeably low point in an otherwise great film. Having Chris Evans there to react was a little fun but they might as well have had posters for the films scroll across screen it was that terrible

The Hugh Jackman cameo was good. I missed the Krasinski, Johnson, and Fey cameos though - I'll have to keep an ear out when I rewatch.
