Lionsgate has launched the first official trailer for J. J. Perry's upcoming action comedy The Killer's Game, which is every bit as bloody as you'd expect as we see Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy; Dune; Blade Runner 2049) step into the shoes of an assassin who must survive the aftereffects of a hit he put out on himself.
As per the synopsis, "when top hitman Joe Flood (Dave Bautista) is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he decides to take matters into his own hands – by taking a hit out on himself. But when the very hitmen he hired also target his ex-girlfriend (Sofia Boutella) , he must fend off an army of assassin colleagues and win back the love of his life before it’s too late."
The film is based on Jay Bonansinga's 1997 novel of the same name and, based on the trailer, doesn't look like it'll be deviating too much from the source material, if at all.
In addition to Bautista, the cast features Academy Award-winner Ben Kingsley ("Zvi"), Sofia Boutella ("Maize"), Terry Crews ("Lovedahl"), Pom Klementieff ("Marianna"), Scott Adkins ("Angus Mackenzie"), Drew McIntyre ("Rory Mackenzie"), Shaina West, Lucy Cork, Daniel Bernhardt ("Radovan"), Lee Hoon ("Goyang"), Marko Zaror ("Botas"), and Raffaello Degruttola ("Dr. Kagen").
Bautista is, of course, best known for his starring role as Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having played the part in six films and one Disney+ special - Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Thor: Love and Thunder, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The wrestler-turned-actor's more prominent credits also include, but are not limited to, Riddick, Spectre, Blade Runner 2049, Stuber, Dune, Glass Onion, Knock at the Cabin, and Dune: Part Two, which is currently the highest-grossing film of the year. Ahead of this new action comedy, he can be seen next in the spy comedy My Spy: The Eternal City, which is due out on Prime Video on July 18!
The Killer's Game hits theaters on September 13!
